About the Job
We've built a talented engineering team that is responsible for the software that is used to optimize performance and ensure security on hundreds of the top consumer and business web sites. We're looking for a Technical Lead to architect new products and grow a new team in our San Mateo office that will develop and enhance our core proxy server.
About the Team
The Site Engineering team has responsibility for the technologies that power our Site Acceleration and Site Security Products, including Dynamic Site Accelerator, Mobile Optimization, Kona Site Defender, and Edge Tokenization for Payment Services. These systems improve the speed and reliability of web sites and applications running over the Internet. By leveraging Akamai's globally distributed Intelligent Platform, we can uniquely solve technology problems and exceed fundamental limitations of site and application performance and security.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, shape, and grow a team of top-notch software engineers that develop our core proxy server.
- Architect and develop new software products.
- Oversee the work done by other software engineers working on the product.
- Develop and implement improvements to the software development process to increase efficiency.
- Work closely with product architects to ensure we are building the best products.
- Work with engineering support team to troubleshoot complex network problems and customer issues.
- Manage small team of very talented engineers.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar field.
- 10+ years of experience developing software in Unix/Linux environments.
- 7+ years of software development experience in C/C++ on Linux based OS.
- 2+ years of leading, shaping, and growing software development teams.
- 5+ years working with Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, and HTTP.
- 5+ years working with high performing, high availability, mission critical systems.
Desired Qualifications
- Proven track record of architect and building high performance systems.
- Knowledge of security protocols such as TLS.
- Industry experience developing large scale distributed products.
- Very strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience working on multiple projects at a time in a fast paced, results oriented environment.
- Highly responsible, self-disciplined, motivational, creative, confident and a quick learner.
