Position Summary: The Department of Art and Design in the College of Arts and Humanities at California State University, Fresno is accepting applications for a tenure-track position in Photography. We are seeking an exceptional photographer with a strong commitment to teaching. The successful candidate will teach courses at all levels of photography as a fine art medium including black and white, color, contemporary digital, and electronically enhanced methods of photography. A commitment to professionalism in the field must be evidenced by an active exhibition record. Supervision and maintenance of photographic darkroom and digital facilities required. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance-learning mode and encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum.

Overview: As part of the College of Arts and Humanities, we serve to provide the student with the base of humanistic studies and creative expression essential to the understanding of contemporary civilization; to reflect critically on questions of belief, values and the nature of human existence; to expand imagination and creativity; to develop an appreciation and understanding of the great works of human imagination. The Department of Art and Design offers a range of academic programs designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the visual arts. These programs include a B.A. in Art, a B.A. in Interior Design and a B.F.A in Graphic Design. The Department's academic programs also include a B.A. in Art with Graphic Design Option, a minor in Art, a Secondary Single Subject Preparation Program in Art, and a Master's Degree in Art.

Faculty Responsibilities: As educators, scholars, colleagues and community members faculty have a responsibility to uphold the standards and ethics called upon by the profession. Regular responsibilities include research, publication, and other scholarly activities, as well as advising students and engaging in service at all levels of the university.

Required Education: An earned M.F.A. with an emphasis in Photography or related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required.

Required Experience: Candidates are expected to demonstrate teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level evidenced by their statement of teaching philosophy and their teaching record. A minimum of one-year of college teaching experience beyond MFA degree is required. An active exhibition record is required. Demonstrated experience with a variety of photographic and digital media software programs and production techniques is required. A background in the historic evolution of photography from both a technical and artistic perspective as well as a knowledge of and appreciation of contemporary concepts and trends in conventional and digital photography is required. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment and/or ability to work with diverse faculty, staff, and students. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates will be those with three years of teaching experience, a history of significant research and relevant professional experience. It is also preferred that the candidate demonstrates a record of active participation or leadership roles in professional organizations.
