Founded in 1947, University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is an accredited institution dedicated to providing continuing education to working adults, military personnel, and students worldwide. We currently have more than 90,000 students worldwide, with over 32,000 who are Maryland residents. UMUC's mission is to provide non-traditional students with the opportunity to achieve their academic goals through online instruction, accelerated academic programs, and classroom-based courses taught during the daytime, evenings and weekends.

We are currently seeking a Director of Social Media to serve as an innovator and leader for UMUC in the ever changing social media arena to include major social networking applications such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr. The incumbent in this position will report to the Associate Vice President of Communications. Specific responsibilities will include:

• Create and execute a comprehensive strategy to expand UMUC's social media presence;

• Ensure social media activities are fully integrated with other communications efforts including digital/traditional media, PR, marketing and advertising;

• Regularly report social media metrics and analysis including audience numbers, most popular posts and tweets, and interactions;

• Responsible for the planning, creation and publication of content across social media platforms, as well as the day-to-day management of UMUC's social media channels including (but not limited to) Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr;

• Work with other UMUC departments & internal teams to develop effective social media campaigns and initiatives that highlight key messages. Engage with UMUC's followers and develop conversations into ideas and strategies;

• Offer social media guidance, recommendations and training to UMUC staff and departments;

• Monitor social media channels for UMUC mentions, feedback, opportunities, and questions;

• Report social media metrics and analysis regularly including audience numbers, most popular posts and tweets, and interactions;

• Monitor and report emerging trends and best practices in social media;

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required education and experience: Requires a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years experience in social media, including a demonstrated record of success in social media; an understanding of UMUC's mission and the operations of a major public university; the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships among all stakeholders, including those at UMUC, USM and the community; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent presentation skills; strong analytical and negotiation skills; and demonstrated ability to work .independently as well as part of a team. Preferred education and experience: Master's degree; work experience in higher education, media, and public relations.
