Cardiac Procedure Unit (CPU – Preparation and Recovery, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Pacemaker/Device Implants) Brampton Civic Hospital
HOURS:
Shifts may include but are not limited to, Days/Evenings/Nights, 8 and 12 Hour Shifts
(Subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
JOB SUMMARY for working within the CCU:
Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager, you will be responsible for the provision of optimal care for CCU patients. In collaboration with the health care team, you will be responsible for the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive care plan for your patients.
JOB SUMMARY for working within the CPU:
As part of the inter-professional health care team, the RN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by William Osler Health System, the regulatory practice standards of College of Nurses and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager for CPU/Cardiac Catheterization Lab, you will be responsible for the provision of optimal care for patients undergoing various procedures within a Cardiac Catheterization Lab and the associated preparation and recovery.

THE RN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
Compliance with policies and procedures associated with observations
Professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being, associated with creating a therapeutic relationship and environment
Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment.
Practicing according to the infection control and prevention measures.
Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using Transfer of Accountability principles
Providing health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions to ensure the continuity of care in the community
QUALIFICATIONS for working within the CCU:
Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
Acute care experience within the last 5 years, with a minimum of 2 years in an acute cardiac or critical care environment required
ACLS required
Coronary Care I and II required, or successful completion of Critical Care certificate
Must pass an arrhythmia quiz obtaining an 80% to move on to the interview phase
Critical Care certificate preferred
QUALIFICATIONS for working within the CPU:
Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses
BScN or equivalent
Cardiac Cath Lab experience within the last 3 years preferred
Critical care experience within the last 5 years, with a minimum of 3 years in Acute Resus, CCU and/or ICU is required
Coronary care I and II required
ACLS required
Must pass an arrhythmia quiz obtaining an 80% to move on to the interview phase
Experience with hemodynamic monitoring is required
Femoral and Radial arterial management experience is required
Strong background in cardiovascular physiology, electrocardiography and rhythm interpretation required
Experience in the care of the Post Angiogram Angioplasty patient (within the last 2 years) preferred
Critical Care certificate preferred
Experience with sterile O.R. and aseptic techniques or Septic ORNAC standards is preferred
Experience with managing an inter-aortic balloon pumps preferred
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position – Lead Apron required
Must be able to respond and attend BCH within 30 minutes
