The Government of Nunavut is seeking a Director, Iqaluit Community Services for the Department of Health in Iqaluit, Nunavut.  Reporting to the Executive Director, Iqaluit Health Services, the Director will be accountable for the management of primary health care programs, public health programs, health promotion programs, environment health programs, rehabilitation programs, speech, language and audiology, dental and oral health programs, and home and community care services. This is a significant mandate, as the Iqaluit Health Services region covers the largest population in Nunavut and includes approximately 8,000 residents, over 21% of the population of the Territory. As Director of Iqaluit Community Services, you will be a contributor to managing a budget, an Operations & Maintenance budget of nearly $53 million, including budget development, control and forecasting, and a staff complement of 7 direct reports.

An integral part of your role will involve participating as a member of the senior leadership team in the development of short- and long-term plans for Iqaluit Health Services, as well as in the implementation and operation of community programs and procedures, with a focus on promoting service excellence and continuous quality improvement. It will fall to you as Director to ensure that professional staff maintains credentials and certification, that all staff activities are aligned with the organization’s mandate, goals and objectives, and that programs and services are managed in adherence to pertinent legislation to facilitate the capacity building of staff through encouragement and coaching.

As Director, Iqaluit Community Services, you will also act as a liaison with the Health IT department, contribute to the ongoing Meditech implementation, and facilitate the extended use of Telehealth for treatment and training. Your proven leadership skills will enable you to provide strong transformational professional direction and support to interdisciplinary teams, evaluate divisional performance, promote an environment that encourages participation in decision-making by all staff of the division, and ultimately ensure that service levels meet the needs of the population served.

This dynamic Iqaluit Community Services leadership position would be a rewarding career opportunity for a professional with a degree in Nursing or Health Services, preferably enhanced by a master’s degree in Nursing or a related field such as Public or Health Care Administration. This education will have served as a solid foundation for your 5 years (minimum) of successful management experience in a relevant field, preferably in a community health or public health nursing setting, enabling you to acquire knowledge of legislation and regulations covering professional staff, including licensing policies and procedures. Knowledge of, or experience in, staff management and supervision in cross-cultural Northern health care systems and structures is an asset. CHE would be an asset. Fluency in the Official Languages of the Territory would be a definite asset.
