POSITION SUMMARY:
The Corporate Pharmacy Clinical Manager for Pharmacy Services is responsible for the managerial oversight of pharmacy clinical services for all hospitals sites at Osler. This role includes, but is not limited to managing and overseeing clinical services and supports, department communications, human resource management, orientation, training and staff development, and policy and procedure development and implementation. The activities of this individual must facilitate the integration of systematic change that positively impacts the achievement of excellence in the provision of pharmaceutical care of patients.
William Osler Health System is Ontario's largest community hospital serving the diverse and growing communities of Etobicoke, Brampton and surrounding regions of the Central West Local Health Integration Network. As a regional referral centre, Osler provides programs and services to nearly one million area residents. Incorporated in 1998, Osler has three unique sites, each providing a wide range of services:
Brampton Civic Hospital provides Osler's most complex and seriously ill or injured patients through a mix of inpatient and outpatient services.
Etobicoke General Hospital is a traditional community hospital that provides all aspects of care from emergency care to surgery and specialist visits.
Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, targeted to open in 2016, will provide urgent and emergency care; day surgery and specialty clinics; and focus on helping individuals with chronic conditions manage their disease better.
Working in close collaboration with other members of the management team across the sites, the Pharmacy Clinical Manager develops and implements the delivery of efficient, safe and high quality clinical pharmacy services. They will ensure that these services reflect evidence-based, outcome-oriented best practices, a collaborative approach to patient-focused care within the profession and that practice meets standards of care and the needs of the patient.
The pharmacy clinical managers is accountable for the following:
Ensures the development of profession specific strategic goals and objectives related to patient-focused care, education and other professional issues
Develops documentation standards and implements processes to ensure pharmacists comply with the standards
To manage the staffing, recruitment, development and performance of pharmacists
To coach and develop teams. Motivate individuals to optimize performance to maximize scope of practice
Oversees the pharmacy residency, pharmacy students and pharmacy co-op programs and implements strategies to ensure a meaningful student experience
Promotes the advancement of the profession internally and externally
Develops and leads the clinical pharmacist staff meeting agendas
Acts as a professional liaison and a resource for medical staff, nursing staff, allied health professionals and discipline staff
Participates in quality improvement and workload measurement activities by conducting audits, tracking indicators and workload statistics, assisting with tool development as needed and providing discipline productivity benchmarks
To work effectively with others on the management team to accomplish organizational goals and identify/resolve problems at the department level
To ensure that standards of practice are being met and regulations followed as per the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Accreditation Canada standards, the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists Standards of Practice and any other regulatory bodies
Supports the leading edge, safe, effective and efficient drug distribution system in accordance with best medication management practices
To ensure the regular review and updating of policies and procedures
To monitor and respond in a timely manner to quality, safety, risk and other performance/outcome indicators
To take responsibility for departmental quality improvement initiatives and risk reduction strategies in conjunction with other pharmacy managers
To be actively involved in department and/or hospital committees and/or task forces as assigned
To influence and motivate staff through transformational leadership and encourage effective relationships among the inter professional teams, regional program partners and stakeholders
To work in partnership with physicians and other providers across the system to address priorities of the program
To collaborate with the Director for Service Excellence to optimize patient experience with services provided by the program and through collaboration with the corporate leadership team to optimize the integration of care delivery and patient flow within Osler and with external partners
To participate and assist with the development and implementation of Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee initiatives
To ensure compliance with workplace safety requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be eligible for licensure in Ontario with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Part A)
Post-graduate degree in management or clinical pharmacy practice an asset
Hospital Pharmacy Residency program certification would be an asset
Minimum 2-3 years recent related progressive leadership in acute care setting
