The School of Nursing maintains a strong, cohesive academic team across the three main campuses as well as a strong partnership with the Northern Health Authority. Collaboratively these partnerships provide many opportunities for research, education, and practice development.
The School of Nursing offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BScN) in collaboration with the College of New Caledonia (Prince George and Quesnel) and Northwest Community College in Terrace. The Rural Nursing Certificate Program (RNCP) offered by the School of Nursing is a provincial, practice-driven program that prepares registered nurses to practice in rural, remote and First Nations communities. Registered nurses can pursue their Bachelor of Science degree in our Post-Diploma RN Program. The School offers a Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) degree with two streams: both predominately delivered online. The first is a thesis-based Master of Science in Nursing; the second is the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) stream, which leads to registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia as an FNP. Nursing faculty members contribute to the University’s interdisciplinary PhD in Health Sciences.
The University of Northern British Columbia, in conjunction with the School of Nursing, invites applications for a tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2016, at one of the three campuses. A PhD or substantial progress in a doctoral program is required. Research, teaching and clinical nursing experience in mental health, community health, and/or perinatal nursing are sought but applicants with practice specialization in other areas are welcome to apply. Primary responsibilities will include: development and delivery of integrated clinical and theory courses; research and scholarship in areas of relevance to the School and northern BC, as well as building on strong community and health service links with Northern Health for the benefit of nursing education and research. In Terrace or Quesnel, applicants may take responsibility for undergraduate program coordination for students and faculty in the regional campus. Applicants will be required to present evidence of research, teaching and practice excellence. Strong organizational, initiative-taking, and teamwork skills as well as high-level communication skills are essential. RN registration or eligibility to register with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia is required. As some travel to other campuses and northern communities is necessary, a valid BC driver’s license is required.
