POSITION SUMMARY

Cancer Care Ontario is seeking expressions of interest from medical oncologists for the position of Provincial Head, Systemic Treatment.  This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership to the evolution of the cancer system. This opportunity is open to all qualified candidates.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Pursuant to CCO's Clinical Accountability Framework and in support of CCO's Vision, Mission and the Ontario Cancer Plan, the Provincial Head will:

Provide visionary leadership at the provincial level

Champion the strategic vision, goals and work plan for the Program

Establish and maintain effective links with relevant clinical communities on behalf of CCO

Identify, foresee and provide advice regarding system level issues

Provide leadership and guidance towards system performance management

Contribute to the implementation of the Ontario Cancer Plan IV

Lead and work in conjunction with the Regional Cancer Programs to implement the Systemic Treatment Provincial Plan (2014-2019) to promote high quality, safe care as close to home as possible

Co-Chair CCO’s Systemic Treatment Provincial Leadership Team to provide direction-setting and advice on workplan items, issues and planning.

In partnership with the Systemic Treatment Funding Model Clinical Lead, provide oversight and strategic direction to ongoing Funding model development and implementation

Provide direction and leadership to other programs and initiatives related to Systemic Treatment, including Provincial Drug Reimbursement Programs, Regional Systemic Treatment Programs, Health Human Resource Planning, and Specialized Services Oversight

Provide supervisory oversight to regional and provincial clinical leads and related initiatives and activities. Actively participate in recruitment and performance management of clinical leads.

QUALIFICATIONS

Medical Oncologist or hematologist currently practicing in Ontario

Significant clinical, research and teaching experience – preferably 10+ years’ experience

Proven track record of clinical leadership at the regional or provincial level

Recognized as an opinion leader within the oncology community

In-depth knowledge of clinical, administrative and system issues with respect to cancer services

Aptitude for systems thinking, ability to analyze information and to make sound decisions

Familiarity and comfort with administrative data

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build consensus

Strong professional presence and ability to present to large and small audiences in a concise, articulate and dynamic fashion

Demonstrated commitment to patient focused care and public accountability

Enthusiasm for, and commitment to, quality improvement in cancer care at the system level

Demonstrated creativity through publication of research and/or implementation of innovative systems and ideas

Effective strategic thinking abilities for appropriate and proactive program planning
