· tertiary level at Royal Columbian Hospital
· some tertiary and intermediate level at Surrey Memorial Hospital
· intermediate level at Burnaby Hospital and Abbotsford Regional Hospital
· community level at Ridge Meadows Hospital, Chilliwack General Hospital, Peace Arch Hospital and Langley Memorial Hospital.
Emergency Services are provided 24/7 and include a provincial referral hospital (tertiary care centre) with provincial trauma centre designation located at Royal Columbian Hospital, as well as the busiest ER in the province, with 77,000 visits per year, at Surrey Memorial Hospital. Recent infrastructure support includes major renovations in the millions of dollars for ERs at Chilliwack General Hospital, Ridge Meadows, and also Surrey Memorial Hospital.
As Emergency Services continue to expand and improve, we are also implementing new leading practices, such as “rapid access to care” at our largest sites. Our ERs have also implemented Stroke/TIA best practice protocols, and an “emergency department information system (EDIS), a patient tracking system which is an international best practice. ER staff enjoy ongoing learning opportunities, including ED-specific e-learning modules such as Nurse-ordered X-rays, CTAs and Stroke.
We’re building now for tomorrow: The Critical Care Tower has increased Surrey Memorial Hospital to 650 beds in 2014, providing a dedicated regional Perinatal Centre, helipad, expanded ICU, as well as a new Emergency Department.
As an Emergency Room Nurse, you have post-basic training and experience in emergency nursing. You must be eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (www.crnbc.ca) in order to qualify for these opportunities.
