This Role:

We are seeking an exceptional strengths based senior leader who is passionate about children, youth, families and the teams who dedicate themselves to delivering excellent care for the whole family. The Senior Director, Rehabilitation and Complex Continuing Care will lead strategic and operations excellence, overseeing a range of in-patient, day-patient and outpatient services designed to meet the evolving needs of children and youth with complex needs from birth through age 18. Areas of specialization include but are not limited to traumatic brain injury, specialized orthopoedics and complex transitional care. Serving the GTA and the province, our exceptional interprofessional teams are dedicated to delivering and promoting excellence in strengths based, compassionate care in partnership with clients and families. The Senior Director will have opportunity to lead the development of new integrated service streams, optimize transitions and shape the delivery of services by building and enhancing partnership networks across services, sectors and the continuum of care.

Reporting to the Vice President, Programs and Services, the Senior Director is a key member of the clinical leadership team and collaborates with the Physician Director, Chief Nurse Officer, interprofessional clinical leads, collaborative practice, and clients and families to develop evidence-based academic clinical services, education and research, advancing the organization’s exciting new Strategic Plan which will launch in 2017.

Provide leadership in creating a care environment in which interprofessional practice and client and family centred care are valued and thrive

Foster a just, coaching culture within a strengths based practice environment to enable health service providers to deliver their best care and to transform outcomes for children, youth and families

Cultivate innovative leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote the recruitment, retention and recognition of excellence in health care providers consistent with the hospital’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan

Enhance partnerships with clients and families to co-design the optimal care experience

Support the Centre for Leadership in Acquired Brain Injury, designed to integrate clinical care and research

Bring a population, health equity lens to operations and strategic vision and planning

Develop and nurture strategic alliances and partnerships with stakeholders across the hospital and the continuum of care, driving program excellence, coordination of care and system integration.

Advocate to influence health care practice, health services, policy and outcomes Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Director is responsible for the overall planning, leadership, management and evaluation of services and works collaboratively with clients, families, the community and staff to ensure the delivery of effective, coordinated and responsive services.

The Senior Director develops a system within the program to facilitate, implement and evaluate continuous quality improvement strategies to support a culture of quality and excellence, informed by accreditation standards.

The Senior Director is responsible for the development and implementation of a meaningful performance management framework that establishes benchmarks and indicators in all aspects of program operation including fiscal management. He/she develops a management and communication structure which is supportive to staff and facilitates timely, effective and efficient provision of services.

In collaboration with the Director of Quality and the Collaborative Practice Leaders, the Senior Director ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of a system of education that fosters student education, learning and development for staff, and client-focused knowledge, skill and expertise.

In collaboration with the Vice President, Research/Director, Bloorview Research Institute and the Vice President, Programs & Services, the Senior Director develops implements and evaluates a plan in relation to evidence-based practice and research priorities within the program.

As a key leader, the Senior Director participates in the overall strategic planning and operation of the organization.

Provides vision and leadership to staff in the development and implementation of the program goals in line with the Programs and Services portfolio plan

Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices

Qualifications:

Education

Minimum Master’s degree in a health profession required

Canadian Health Executive certification, Lean/Six Sigma, are assets

Knowledge of Pediatrics and Rehabilitation are assets

Proven life-long learner with demonstrated health system leadership experience

Experience

Managing/directing inpatient services in an academic, interprofessional care environment

Comprehensive knowledge of hospital and integrated health system operations

Minimum five to seven years progressive leadership experience, within a Director’s role and in an academic health science centre

Experience in the field of pediatrics, childhood disability/and or child development an asset

A systems thinker who is an exceptional relationship developer capable of inspiring teams, and working with organizational partners to facilitate change, incorporate research and embrace academic initiatives, while fostering a culture of creativity, innovation and accountability

Skills

Demonstrated:

Superior skills in developing and promoting collaborative relationships with all stakeholders, including clients and families, across the continuum of care

Results oriented, with demonstrated ability to develop effective and efficient governance and clear processes for communication, reporting relationships and responsibilities, setting of goals and measuring performance.

Innovative program development and project management

Strong human resource and financial management skills

Proven track record in creating a caring and compassionate environment where interprofessional health care teams can thrive

Highly effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written

Communication/Language

Ability to communicate in French and/or another language is considered an asset.
