**Job Description Summary:**

The VP of Engineering role is a highly influential role within the E&T organization as well as J.B. Hunt business units. These individuals are the primary liaisons responsible for linking business, engineering and technology objectives to further the J.B. Hunt strategy in support of our customers and partners. A highly successful candidate will be someone who has held a business unit specific CIO role including business reengineering. As the Engineering function also reports into this role, experience with analytical modeling and sales support via customer specific solutions is a plus.

The incumbent is responsible for formalizing the Engineering Organization for J. B. Hunt Transportation. This individual will be a key member of the leadership team and will be responsible for defining, planning and executing the business innovation strategy as it relates to the utilization of engineering and technology resources in support of a line of business and/or shared services. This includes the development of new business opportunities that leverage a combination of people, process and technology to maximize value. As a leader of organizational change management, the incumbent will work directly with senior executives within the designated line and/or shared services to implement value-creating projects, both internal and external to the company. As a leader of strategic program implementation, the incumbent has budget and resource accountability that influences the work of the Engineering and Technology organization. Hiring, developing and promoting employees with critical thinking, change orientation and strong leadership skills is expected.

The Business Excellence Organization is responsible for ensuring solutions are delivered on time, on budget and meet business requirements. An effective organization will ensure long-term resource optimization, business capabilities and speed to market. By acting as a facilitating function between the business groups and E&T, requirements are mapped end to end and with visibility to current and future state technology. The Engineering team will facilitate Master Data Management teams aligned to business groups to define critical business processes and establish technology roadmaps.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES**

Leverage the E&T PMO for J.B. Hunt and manage the program budget ensuring documentation and executive sign-off, timely execution and ongoing portfolio visibility for all E&T programs and projects in support of a line of business and/or shared services. Implement innovative solutions that put J.B. Hunt at the forefront of the industry. Meet shared goals of the Engineering and Technology organization, while delivering on key business drivers, such as asset utilization and superior customer service. Drive business improvements by identifying the line of business and/or shared services opportunities, defining requirements, building the business case, and design the process and technology solutions to achieve results. Develop long term strategic objectives for business unit and/or functional department; and effectively communicate progress towards those objectives. Foster a work environment that promotes J.B. Hunt’s values for people, performance, and ethics. Facilitate reengineering business processes, modifications to organizational roles and responsibilities, and replacing legacy technologies as appropriate. Manage success of business and technology resources responsible for implementation of global, regional and local data quality efforts. Own the formal project stage gate reporting process including preparation, attendees and agenda (Project Selection, Execution and Benefits Realization). Oversee relationships with customers and vendors, as necessary. Act as end-user advocate and ensure balanced decisions are made that consider return on investment, risk mitigation, data integrity, employee experience, and sustainability.

**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES**

Responsible for approximately 20 to 40 employees. Directly supervises Director level positions leading teams for Program Execution, Change, Engineering and Master Data Management.

**INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL INTERFACES**

Internal: E&T Management Team, Engineering Management Team, Business Unit Leadership Teams

External: Design network optimization in support of the Sales team.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university required; a Master’s degree in Engineering or Information Sciences preferred. Seven plus years of proven information sciences leadership, innovation and transformation experience. Master Black Belt certification in Lean Six Sigma principles a plus.

**MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES**

+ 10+ years in Information Technology with 8+ years managing E&T resources.

+ 5+ years enterprise business improvement experience.

+ 7+ years progressive management experience.

+ Strong influencing and relationship management skills.

+ Proven negotiation and influencing skills

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy to understand business terms

+ Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university required; technical degree preferred

+ Strong leadership, meeting management, and presentation skills are necessary
