The World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world`s leading conservation organization, is seeking a Senior Specialist, Media & External Affairs, for our office in Washington, DC.The Senior Specialist develops, manages, and implements innovative external affairs and media relations tactics to advance WWF's conservation mission and drive engagement with private sector and policy audiences. The Specialist will be expected to cultivate strong relationships with journalists and communications counterparts at WWF partner organizations, while working closely with experts and leadership from the Private Sector Engagement and Government & Multilateral Affairs teams, and other WWF-US staff as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Designs and implements comprehensive, integrated and proactive external affairs and public relations tactics to promote and support WWF's engagement with the private sector and policymakers to deliver on conservation goals to key U.S. audiences through multiple channels. Identifies audiences, messages, approaches, and other key communications elements, including key activities, deliverables and timetables, and builds story packages to leverage across multiple channels.

• Identifies, initiates and manages relationships and outreach with target media and social media influencers, and monitors external issues related to and affecting WWF's private sector and policymaker engagement efforts.

• Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with key external partners and internally with other WWF teams in Marketing and Communications, Private Sector Engagement, Government & Multilateral Affairs and others as needed. Works with communications and program staff at WWF-International and other WWF National and Program Offices to coordinate messaging, monitoring and media outreach.

• Develops and pitches feature stories, prepares press releases, op-eds and other written material, plans and leads press conferences and other events, follows up on press conferences, media briefings, institutional statements, and special interviews.

• Represents WWF-US at appropriate national and international meetings, conferences and events where strategic communications is a priority. May travel to field programs, other WWF offices, corporate headquarters and other locations both domestically and internationally.

Requirements

1. Education/Experience:A Bachelor's degree is required, as is demonstrated experience in media relations and in developing and executing digital public relations tactics for or about policymakers and the private sector. At least 6 years professional experience in public relations or communications. A background in communications related to environmental issues or other scientific fields is a plus.

2. Skills and Abilities

o Superb oral and written communications skills are a must.

o Ability to create and implement external affairs and public relations tactics on tight deadlines.

o Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects; also must be flexible and able to be a cooperative team player.

o Successfully sell ideas within the organization and work cooperatively with people from other organizations and cultures; Strong interpersonal communication skills, especially relationship management skills and the ability to work diplomatically as part of a high-level, multi¬dimensional, international team.

o Strong organizational/analytical skills.

o Must possess appreciation and enthusiasm for conservation.

o Strong interest in, and ability, to proactively work with media.

o Highly-motivated, self-starter who knows how to take projects and run with them.
