SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Oregon Environmental Council (OEC) seeks a tech-savvy problem solver to lead the organization in connecting the dots between fundraising from members and engaging members in citizen action goals, and the tactics and technologies that can deliver results. The membership/engagement manager is responsible for recruiting, engaging, and cultivating a strong base of individual donors and supporters by making the most of OEC's online assets and systems. The manager works closely and collaboratively with communications and fundraising staff to set goals and execute strategies.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. Develop and implement campaigns to grow and retain donating members and move donors up the giving scale:

• Manage and grow organizational membership and monthly giving program.

• Manage and integrate digital and direct mail campaigns to increase and retain membership, working with other staff on strategy and messaging. Develop overall online and digital recruitment strategy, working with communications director on messaging for online community.

• Manage OEC's digital assets and service contracts.

• Collect and analyze data to project, measure, and adjust recruitment, action, and retention activities. Own and drive organizational data collection efforts to identify new potential members and supporters.

• Work with fundraising team to develop and implement strategies to increase giving from long-term members.

• Oversee and secure membership benefits and relationships to promote and create incentives for membership, including securing new member benefit partners and promoting existing partners/partnerships.

2. Engage new and existing supporters to involve them in OEC's environmental agenda:

• Work with outreach director, communications director and program staff to develop and implement an action-oriented engagement strategy (e.g., generating letters and phone calls from constituents to elected officials).

• Coordinate with communications director to ensure member and supporter communications are consistent with overall goals.

3. Conceive of and help organize events (both online and in-person) for the purpose of membership and supporter engagement.

4. Assist outreach director and volunteers in representing OEC at public and community events.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with direct marketing, grassroots campaigns, or membership and donor management, with a track record of growing membership and engagement

• Experience in managing both direct mail and digital communication campaigns and a demonstrable track record of growing membership and tracking/analyzing results

• A high level of comfort with managing and getting what's needed out of customer relationship management databases, such as Salesforce, and fluency with Excel and engagement-related web apps

• Project management experience, with excellent time management skills and ability to balance multiple tasks and short and long-term priorities simultaneously

• Excellent interpersonal skills: comfortable spending time with people and building and tending relationships

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Willingness to test ideas and to step outside of your comfort zone and fail occasionally

• A high degree of comfort with “making the ask,” i.e., actively selling memberships and fundraising

• A high attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy

• A self-motivated approach, able to work well in a team atmosphere while managing programs and campaigns with little oversight

• Strong commitment to OEC's mission and a sense of humor

• Experience developing and managing corporate partnerships is a plus

COMPENSATION AND AMENITIES

Salary is commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits include four weeks of paid vacation annually, generous health insurance for employee and family, and employer contributions to a retirement fund.
