POSITION SUMMARY:
The Conformity Assurance Manager (CAM) will play a critical role in continuing EPEAT's success as the definitive global registry for greener electronics by ensuring the accuracy of manufacturer declarations of conformance to leadership environmental criteria. The CAM will work closely with current staff and global certification bodies to review and audit the accuracy of declarations, provide manufacturer training and support, and to continue to refine and mature the processes for maintaining the accuracy of the EPEAT registry.

EPEAT is used by hundreds of companies, universities and government agencies in dozens of countries to identify greener electronics to purchase, in line with their broader green purchasing policies. EPEAT's rigorous requirements and searchable product database let buyers choose products with independently verified claims. For participating manufacturers, EPEAT is a chance to gain market recognition for greener designs and cleaner production. ABOUT THE GREEN ELECTRONICS COUNCIL:
GEC is a not-for-profit organization based in Portland, Oregon, USA, with the mission to inspire and catalyze environmental leadership throughout the lifecycle of electronic technologies. GEC was founded in 2005 to be the parent organization of EPEAT and is currently expanding into additional projects to forward our mission, including organizing Emerging Green, the premiere international conference on green electronics for 2015. ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Initial Review and Technical Support
• Timely review of declarations of conformance to criteria of international technical standards for environmental performance made by new participating manufacturers before those declarations appear on the public registry
• Respond quickly and precisely to technical questions regarding conformance to standard criteria
• Plan, conduct, and/or support technical investigations of product conformance
• Develop and/or review and comment on technical documents
Manage Surveillance/Verification
• Develop an annual plan and budget for conducting surveillance auditing
• Plan specific rounds of verification/surveillance
• Coach and manage auditors in the conduct of verification investigations
• Communicate and coordinate with global certification bodies as they conduct initial review and surveillance auditing of manufacturer's declarations of conformity
• Review auditor's recommendations, present them to the Product Verification Committee (PVC), and facilitate the PVC to reach conformity decisions
• Manage the manufacturer corrective action process in response to nonconformances
• Draft and publish the verification round outcomes reports
Process Management and Improvement
• Work closely with other staff to document and refine the processes for assuring accuracy of manufacturer claims
• Support internal and external audits to ISO 17020 and 17065
Training and Customer Support
• Develop and provide training on the EPEAT system to manufacturers, certification bodies, and others globally
• Develop and present recorded training videos
• Answer manufacturer's questions, interact constructively in sometimes challenging situations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
• Bachelor's degree
• Significant experience with certification or conformity assessment
Preferred
• Experience with environmental issues related to electronics such as eco-labels or environmental product regulations
• Advanced degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Business, or Environmental Law
• Significant experience managing product conformity assurance/certification activities in an ISO 17065 accredited organization
• Experience in the electronics industry
