Systems Engineer

As Systems Engineer, you will be reporting to the Director Systems Engineering/Operations, the Systems Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for escalated customer issues, delivering new implementation projects and managing the existing shared Cloud and Managed Hosting Infrastructure. This role will also drive leadership as "owner" of escalated issues to Engineering Team through to resolution".

Will respond to Engineering Remedy/ITSM queue in an expedient manner, providing clear and informative status entries, resolution entries and quality assurance closure. Will work to identify the root cause of any customer escalations and strive to incorporate solutions that are correct, with zero rework. Provide leadership and mentoring pertaining to customer relations, technical expertise, effective communication and teamwork. Will be Technical Lead for Systems Engineering and should possess the expertise in Compute, Storage, Backup, Cloud and application infrastructure products.

Responsibilities:

The Systems Engineer will be in charge of maintaining an environment with over 1500 Servers. Some responsibilities include.

Perform Linux/VMware ESX/Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 Enterprise, Standard and R2 server builds in accordance with global standards.

Setup and maintain Windows Deployment Server and RedHat Kick Start server for consistent builds across all the data centres globally.

Setup and maintain OS Templates (Windows and Linux) for consistent builds in our Cloud and dedicated virtualization environments.

Setting up and troubleshoot DNS, NTP, Syslog and SMTP.

Setting up Active Directory domains and managing group policies.

Setting up and supporting UNIX and Windows print Servers and printers

Support and troubleshoot operations and performance issues

Setting up performance monitors and evaluating logs to determine performance problems or recommending steps to Remedy a situation.

Required Experience:

10+ Years of relevant experience with excellent technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Work well as a team, handle independent responsibilities, knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of Compute environment. Experience with configuration, installation and troubleshooting of Windows Server 2003/2008/2012 (R2), Linux (RedHat, CentOS, Debian) and VMWARE ESXi. Experience with configuration and support of Compute, Storage and Backup hardware (HP, Fujitsu, EMC, IBM, Netapp and Quantum Tape Libraries etc.)

Experienced in Backup Technologies such as Symantec Netbackup, HP Data Protector, Hypervisor based backups. Experience in Commvault Backup would be considered plus.

Experience with HP Data Protector and E-vault Backup solutions would also be considered plus

Experience with implementing and managing Cloud Environments (Public, Private, Hybrid Cloud)

Expertise with Bind Name server (DNS) for internal and external name resolve, NTP server, FTP Servers (such as WUFTP, VSFTP, PROFTP) and LDAP Servers

Running diagnostics, creating notification of issues, and correction of performance and availability problems in the Servers and the services deployed in them.

Proficient in Shell Scripting, AWK, SED, grep, Perl.

Must possess solid written and oral communication skills

Experienced in implementing and supporting Solaris (10/11), Linux (RHEL5/6) and Windows Operating Systems (2008/2012).

Experienced in Virtual server environments, primarily VMware with exposure to Oracle VM (OVM) and Xen desirable.

Experienced in Sun (Oracle), Veritas and MS Clustering Technologies

Experienced in Solaris LVM, EXT4, VxFS, NTFS and ZFS file-systems

Excellent troubleshooting skills around UNIX/Windows file systems, TCP connectivity, networking and application integration

UNIX and Windows OS Security best practices

Experienced in Storage Area Network (Brocade, Cisco)

Monitoring performance, raising concerns related to performance and resolving OS related Performance Issues by OS tuning and making hardware scaling recommendations
