Cloud Stack Infrastructure Engineer - Amsterdam, LAMP/High availability/High traffic/Cloud/Scrum/Agile

For one of our main clients we are exclusively recruiting for Infrastructure engineers to be based in Amsterdam. The organisation is a growing international hosting company working with large enterprises such as Heineken, Mozilla Firefox etc. They have over 18,000 customers around the globe to which they offer on-demand, word class solutions through their own network and cloud services.

They have skilled engineers in their Amsterdam office working on tackling scalability, cloud and automation challenges. The Development department consists of around 100 engineers, working in small scrum teams. Each of the teams is responsible for a different area of their software and infrastructure landscape, covering data centre automation, product research & development (Bare Metal Automation Servers, CDN, Cloud and Storage) and Front End implementations for their websites and customer portal.

As an infrastructure engineer you will be part of the Cloud team. This team consists of around 7 engineers. 2 VMware engineers, 1 Azure engineer, 1 PHP Developers, 1 Cloud Stack engineer.

Day to day tasks:

Develop, Maintain and support the Apache CloudStack infrastructure

3rd line incident support

To ensure the availability of Linux-based virtualization platforms

Focus on problem-solving, being able to suggest improvements

Regular on-call duty

Working closely with other departments

Work in alignment with the existing processes for Release-, Incident- and Problem Management

Report on key performance indicators for storage platforms (performance, availability, capacity utilization)

Identify and propose solutions for improvements or structural problems

Our ideal candidate has:

Demonstrable experience of Linux System Administration - certifications are desirable

Good understanding of other disciplines such as networks and Scripting

Experience with nagios-based monitoring systems

Experience with Linux Kernel Internals and general operating system concepts.

Experience with Open-source virtualization management frameworks, such as Cloud Stack, OpenStack, onApp, SolusVM, etc.

Ability to trace (programming) code - Python, PHP, C, Java (preferred)

Preferably the candidate should also have experience with enterprise storage systems, such as NetApp and distributed object storage eg Ceph

Ability to suggest improvements to the existing framework (preferred)

Good written and spoken English (Dutch would be an advantage)

Basic knowledge of ISP related technologies such as Servers' hardware and cloud technologies is a plus

Self-motivated and able to prioritize, schedule and meet deadlines

Willingness to take up 24/7 responsibility for their product (regular on-call duty)
