Job Summary:
The Payroll Accountant I role uses their education and knowledge to develop skills that allow them to perform routine accounting and analytical functions necessary for the timely and accurate preparation of the corporate Payroll and various routine and standard accounting and analytical functions within the Employee Resources/Payroll Department. Responsibilities include, not limited to, gathering financial information, preparing journal entries, preparing financial reports, and maintaining general ledger accounts, service customers effectively.
Description:
This position is responsible to perform routine accounting and analytical functions necessary for the timely and accurate preparation of the corporate Payroll; to ensure accurate expense allocations; to calculate and remit applicable payroll taxes and various tax reports; to service customers effectively; and to research and analyze information to facilitate Corporate decision making.
Primary Responsibility:
Responsible for all payroll tax accounting including compliance with local state and federal regulations and filing local state and federal tax returns and or deposits.
Prepares and files tax reports gathers payroll data for inclusion in financial statements researches and prepares special reports for management calculates and processes garnishments and tax levies as well as voluntary deductions.
Maintains payroll-related accounts and is responsible for reconciliation and accuracy of all general ledger accounts within a complex accounting system. Prepares various accounting summaries and exhibits. Reconcile control earnings and deductions totals calculates and prepares general ledger entries audits automated system output such as registers and standardized reports analysing and correcting out-of-balance occurrences.
Responds to questions and special requests from employee and regulatory agencies in researching laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures. Documents and updates procedures trains employees and prepares special reports for management Interpret corporate policies; facilitate the administration of employee related programs policies and activities throughout the life cycle of employment. Provide to end users and participants.

Intermediate skill level using MS Word and Excel Lotus Notes and the Internet
Intermediate skill level in Genesys and PeopleSoft PeopleSoft
Education:
Required Education:Bachelors Degree (AccountingBusiness Admin.Finance)
Working Conditions/Certifications:/Experience:
Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible roles in a payroll function. CPP certification preferred.

Required Education:
Bachelors Degree: Accounting, Finance
Required Experience:
Minimum of 0 to 2 years experience. Masters in Accounting or Finance preferred. Minimum 3 years progressively responsible payroll
Required Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledgeable with federal and state payroll laws and how they affect the Corporation.
Time management skills
Organizational skills and high level of attention to detail
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
Ability to work effectively with moderate supervision

Demonstrates an understand of basic accounting and finance concepts

Demonstrate a level of MS Office proficiency (Office, Word, Access), experience with various accounting systems a plus
