The Position

The Jewish Museum seeks a dynamic, articulate and creative individual to channel the

Museum's vision across every aspect of the visitors' experience: on-site and online; through advertising and social media; in the shops and café; and in the cultural industry. As The Museum embarks on a two-year strategic transition, including the launch of a new graphic identity created by Sagmeister & Walsh, the Creative Director will lead the in-house design team and tune the Museum's ‘voice.'

Responsibilities Include:

• Develop original creative design concepts and solutions that strengthen the Museum's image

• Lead ideation brainstorms and take ownership of creative choices, brand positioning and other strategic documents

• Oversee multiple projects and direct all phases of creative work from concept through production

• Contribute to the development of digital and marketing strategies

• Promote continual creative improvement and actively contribute to a culture of innovation, excellence and accountability

• Articulate and defend conceptual and directional choices

• Lead the in-house design team (graphic design, digital design) in executing excellent print and digital communications pieces for traditional advertising, in-house collateral, special events and other purposes

• Provide direction to the shops' merchandising, display and packaging

• Freshen the visitor experience throughout the museum's public spaces, amenities and personnel presentation including the shops, café and front desk

Requirements

• 10+ years' experience in creative capacity, including: advertising, merchandising, design and/or related fields; arts and/or cultural experience preferred

• 4+ years' experience in a senior/managerial position

• Strong working knowledge of graphic design, user-centered experience design, brand development, marketing and the creative process

• Recognized expertise in advertising, collateral, identity, and merchandising.

• Knowledge of art history, especially contemporary art and visual culture

• Excellent presentation skills and communication abilities at all levels

• Familiarity with digital and social media space

• Superb communication skills

• Solid ability to prioritize work and resources across engagements

• Mac and PC proficiency; Fluency with MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite; Experience in Basecamp and/or MS Project a plus

• B.A./B.S. degree required; advanced degree preferred
