Position Overview:

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP is looking for a dynamic and creative individual to work in the West Coast marketing department of a world class, premier design firm as a Senior Public Relations Coordinator for its San Francisco and Los Angeles offices.

This proactive, integral and highly collaborative role drives strategy and creates content for and with the Marketing and Leadership teams. Deliverables will be used to improve SOM’s messaging in proposals, presentations, public relations and general business development.

Candidates must have excellent writing, editing, and communication skills with an exceptional eye for visual composition. Must be able to work effectively in a fast paced and collaborative environment. A proactive, highly motivated, inspired self-starter will have a unique opportunity to work directly with individuals in all areas of the firm. The Senior Public Relations Coordinator will play a key role in expanding SOM’s presence in the print and digital media realm, from generating social media to producing content for our newly redesigned website. The position will be located in San Francisco.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with Marketing team and firm-wide Digital Media team to create Public Relations programs in support of strategic objectives.

Work directly with the leadership group, and project teams to realize a variety of special projects and custom communications, including award submissions, portfolios and presentations.

Write press releases, articles, web features, digital media content and collateral to document and promote project milestones, awards, press coverage, lectures and events.

Respond to publication and media requests in a timely and professional manner.

Cultivate and continue to develop a strong media contact network.

Develop and implement outreach strategies and consistently identify press and speaking opportunities throughout the region.

Maintain public relations and project information databases for press, project photography and other editorial-related files.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Public Relations or Communications.

Experience with an architecture, design or professional services firm is highly desirable.

Superior written and verbal communications skills and ability to work with clients and external parties.

Creative, proactive and confident approach to the role.

Team player — collaborative, reliable, flexible, and cooperative — who works well with firm leadership, marketing team and staff at all levels.

Strong organization skills and attention to detail: ability to prioritize, work efficiently under pressure and manage tight deadlines.

Knowledge of digital image procedures for press, screen and web, including social media.

Understanding of photographic rights issues and processes, including working with photographers.

Proficient in MS Office and Adobe Creative Cloud with strong InDesign experience.

Ability to manage multiple deadline driven projects simultaneously.

A bachelor’s degree.
