Document Composition / Print IT Support

Skills can be gained by training and through experience however an understanding / awareness of the following bullet points would be advantageous. Some degree of creativity and a logical way of thinking / working would be expected.

General IT Skills

General PC skills, comfortable with standard Microsoft Office Products, Adobe Acrobat, email and internet.

Apple Macintosh Skills would be of advantage.

Programming

An understanding of scripting and the basic components as detailed below.

Data Types (Integer, String, Array)

Conditional Logic (If..Then…Else, for…next )

Logical Operations (and, or, not)

Variables (set, count, index, pointer)

Numbering Systems (Decimal, Binary, Hexadecimal)

Data

An understanding / awareness of the various types of data we deal with as detailed below.

Within the unit we use the following applications, some of which are highly specialised, and no experience or knowledge is assumed.

Document Composition

PC based systems.

Planet Press Suite for variable data forms, data workflow, document automation, ad-hoc mailing. Usually transactional monochrome letters.

Printshop Mail for variable data graphics such as raffle tickets, postcards and colour marketing material. Usually high quality colour work. 

Graphic / Web Design

Apple Macintosh Systems. 

Most of our work is to design for print but we are looking to branch out into web design.

We use industry standard tools including Quark Express, Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver or HTML would be of advantage

MIS

We use Accura MIS for job management, estimating, billing and stock control. This is managed by staff within the unit and requires support for report creation.

Web-2-Print

We use a hosted Skyline portal for web-2-print job submission. This requires management of web site, products and reports.

Future Developments.

We are looking to enhance systems to improve workflow, on-line stock ordering, pre-flighting and billing to improve the customer experience and make the whole operation more efficient.

Application process: by online application to Arch, followed by Arch telephone interview and assessment centre; interviews with Agilisys Arch staff followed by one week’s work experience at Appliance Online.

Essential attributes:
