Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched BHIM, described by him as a brand-new app that will amount to “a world wonder.” NEW DELHI: In keeping with his push to steer India towards a digital economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a new e-wallet app, BHIM, named after founding father Dr BR Ambedkar, to make it easier to transact online.
BHIM – Bharat Interface for Money – is named for Dr BR Ambedkar, said the PM, and is positioned to play a big role in the government’s push for digital transactions. The app/device needs to be connected to a biometric reader, which is currently available at a price of around Rs 2,000.BHIM, short for Bharat Interface for Money, can be used with other Unified Payment Interface (UPI) applications and bank accounts. Maximum of Rs. 10,000 per transaction and Rs. 20,000 within 24 hours is allowed under this.
