Manager of Technical Operations
Reporting to the CEO, the Manager of Technical Operations is directly responsible for all aspects of management of internal and customer-facing activities pertaining to Software Development, Software Implementations, Customer Support and internal IT.
The Manager of Technical Operations also works closely with the Executive Team to define and develop product roadmaps and define, prioritize, schedule, balance resources and deliver the highest quality product and feature requirements.
The Manager of Technical Operations will set and lead the long-term direction and vision for Software Development practices and the Development team. The ideal candidate will have a strong hands-on software development background and proven successful experience managing the development, release and support of commercial software products.
The successful candidate will have strong Project Management skills in order to effectively plan, track and manage work progress across multiple software development and delivery projects.
The Manager of Technical Operations will also be expected to motivate the technology team to accomplish significant deliverables within tight deadlines and to demonstrate leadership to go 'above and beyond the call of duty' to deliver quality software.
The successful candidate will recognize that a key component to his or her success will be the ongoing development of a knowledge base of industry-related subject-matter expertise in respect to technology standards and practices within the Automotive Aftermarket industry.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong oral and written skills and a natural ability to communicate across the corporation with senior management and IT professionals.
Key Duties:
• Manages the activities of a technical staff of 12+ (and growing), in the following areas:
o Software Design, Development and Release
o New Customer Implementations and Training
o Quality Assurance and Testing
o Customer Technical Support
o Internal IT - internal hardware, software, networks and Web.
o Software Documentation
o Internal Staff Training
• Responsible for all aspects of Software Implementations, including:
o Scope determination, needs requirements, technical design, implementation plans and associated documentation
o Defining customer solutions and driving the implementation schedule
o Quality Assurance and Testing to ensure implementations meet requirements.
o Customer training and associated documentation.
• Responsible for supporting Pre-Sales activities, including:
o Technical dialogue with potential customers
o Requirements Gathering
o Preparation of proofs-of-concept/product demos
o Estimating small and large scale customer projects
o Supporting and reviewing technical marketing material and drafts
• Directly responsible for all aspects of R&D for software products, including:
o SR&ED project management, reporting and administration
o New technology evaluation
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
• A proven work history of successfully leading, motivating and inspiring a team of software developers in a "hands on" business environment
• Minimum 5 years' experience in software development industry
• Listed experience as a supervisor or team lead or manager in software development industry
• Demonstrated experience formally managing people, including hiring, assignment of work, formal feedback regarding performance, and professional development
• Expertise in managing the Software development life cycle.
• Strong working knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
• Demonstrated experience delivering "mission critical", n-tier software development projects using Microsoft "Classic" and .NET technologies.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented design and programming.
• Strong knowledge of XML and XSLT, Ajax, JavaScript, VBScript and other related web technologies and web services.
• In-depth knowledge of MS-SQL Server.
• Experience managing complex project schedules.
• Expertise in requirements gathering and functional design documentation.
• High energy, with excellent problem solving skills, friendly demeanor and superior communication and team building skills
• University degree in Computer Science, or related discipline or equivalent value in relevant work experience
Additional:
• MDM, PLM, PIM, or SCM application or other commercial software development experience highly desirable
• Knowledge of Database Publishing, Content Management an asset
• Automotive, Aerospace or Manufacturing industry experience is a plus
Other:
• Must be able to travel periodically for industry events and customer meetings
• Must have and maintain a valid Canadian passport
• Must be willing to locate and work from headquarters in Brockville, Ontario Canada
