A gunfight started between militants and para-commandos of the Indian army in forest area along Line of Control– that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

A police official said army’s 41 RR and 4 PARA, who have launched massive search operation after a group of Lashkar-e-Toiba militants gave slip to troops on Friday evening at Payerpati village near the control line in Haihama area of Kupwor, intercepted the militant group at Behak forest area near Kumkadi today evening.

Soon an encounter ensued which was going on when reports last came in, he said.

The group, according to the police official, had infiltrated on intervening night of 30/31 October and was trapped in the mountainous terrain due to heavy rains and snowfall.

Pertinently, two army soldiers were injured on Friday evening when the group of militants attacked them before escaping from the spot.

On Nov 10, the army unit had recovered the body of a militant who is believed to have died due to severe cold.
