Your Guide to South Florida’s Trendiest Hotspots

WATCH OUT

Here’s something for the watch enthusiast who has it all. A reproduction of the Breguet N° 5 pocket watch for $1.8 million is on display at the Swiss firm’s Bal Harbour boutique through July 17. Purchased by Count Journiac Saint-Méard in 1794, its original version pioneered automatic, self-winding timepieces through an oscillating platinum weight. The perpétuelle technology, which was available only to the aristocracy, including Marie Antoinette, then, made Abraham-Louis Breguet an industry star. Since many pocket and wristwatches were made with white enamel dials over the years, its rare, silvered hand-engraved dial also set it apart. The 54-millimeter piece features an 18K yellow gold case; indicator of phases and age of the moon, and “à toc,” a quarter-repeater rather than gongs.

MICHY TO MANNA

Missing Michy’s? Michelle Bernstein’s beloved Biscayne Boulevard restaurant that transitioned into Cena before it recently closed resurfaces yet again as Dusk. Located at her Crumb on Parchment café, the pop-up serves dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6 to 10:30 p.m., through September 30. Chicken liver mousse is paired with buttermilk biscuits for a fun take on the Southern classic. Colombians will recognize their national dish with an American twist in ajiaco pot pie, chicken and potato soup in a puff pastry with avocado salad and caper cream on the side. End with sticky toffee bread pudding in a cast-iron skillet with toffee brittle and homemade mango ice cream. Feeling full? The new Manna Life Food serves plant-based bites, nut mylks and fresh-pressed juices (pictured) in downtown Miami.

CALI RALLY

From Chrome Hearts to American Apparel to a flood of premium denim brands, California has made its mark on American wardrobes. The state is also a major player in contemporary fashions, and one of the category’s biggest labels Joie just opened in Shops at Merrick Park. The 1,300-square-foot boutique’s elegant architectural accents and gray palette are reminiscent of a Parisian pied-à-terre. It represents the Florida foray for the women’s collection founded by Guess and Levi Strauss alum Joie Rucker in 2001. For Fall/Winter 2016, find 70’s-inspired clothing, accessories and shoes by new vp of design Rachel Wilder-Hill. Hot items are peasant blouses and fringed leather jackets. Fashion fans can only hope Joie’s parent company follows up with Miami locations for sister brands Equipment and Current/Elliott.
