why-i-need-diverse-games:

So I’m thinking of making a Café Press or Spreadshirt store so folks can order mugs, hats, hoodies, t-shirts etc with the hashtag, or in the case of folks who make games, add in #IMakeDiverseGames, etc.

This poses a couple problems. One:  what do with any profit? I’m not in this for money, or gain or fame. Trust me I have enough problems as it is.

What I would like is for any profit made off sales to be split into two things. One to support kickstarters/patreon’s for diverse games, no matter genre, etc. The other to go into a supplementary fund so if I wanted to go to more local cons that talk about gaming, or GeekGirl Con or something I could have a little bit of munny on hand to go.

The other is, the backlash that will whip out faster than a spinout in F1 the second any GG’r gets a whiff of merch being sold so they can go HA! FOUND YOU SCAMMER! YOU DON’T EVEN GAME DO YOU! Which they are doing anyway.

I’m not famous or special. I was just angry and witty at the right time apparently  :|

So is there a want? Is there a need? If so I’ll work on some things this weekend.

I’m also thinking of making a G+ page to actually market, and cross post from tumblr/twitter.

Thanks for the support from you al and sanity checks from my friends.

Reblogging after the influx of followers over the last day or so. Um, so yes, I am going to do the thing, make the spreadshirt store and split any revenue between me and a chosen diverse gaming project.

For not it’ll be t-shirts, hoodies and mugs. Any other ideas?

Reblogging from my personal account, thoughts? Questions, concerns?

I think splitting any profits between yourself and donating to development of diverse games is an EXCELLENT idea. Because this is still labour you’re doing, and you deserve to get paid for it. The labour is a good cause too: you’re continuing the conversation and raising awareness of this issue. That is work. But everything else going towards game development that fulfills your goals sets a strong example that you are walking the walk!!
