These days, there seems to be an App for everything. Need a quick dinner recipe? There’s an App for that. Need scrapbooking ideas? There’s an App for that. Want to break into rap music but need some beats on the go? Yep, there’s an App for that too.
So, it comes as no surprise that an App, tailor-made from the pulpit of one of America’s leading pastors, is now making its way onto our androids, iPhones, and tablets.
Bishop T.D. Jakes, senior pastor of the Texas-based megachurch, The Potter’s House, has begun to extend his reach with the recent launch of his official T.D. Jakes Ministries mobile App.
“The App was designed to fill a critical need in the marketplace for those followers desiring tailored content direct from the pulpit,” Bishop Jakes tell JET.
And, while there are a plethora of Bible Apps and devotionals available, Jakes believes his technology goes much deeper.
“Beyond the standard Bible App, this site acts as a compendium of personalized resources,” he explains.
In fact, this App has some unique qualities you won’t find elsewhere, including the personal narration of content by Bishop Jakes himself that will soon be made available.
“No other biblical App is so personally designed with (such) exclusive content,” Jakes explains. “This contains specially selected resources that are not found on other sites. Additionally, the NIV Live audio Bible allows users to engage the Bible with full animation with voice overs by industry leading actors and view Sunday services live with sermon notes uploaded each week.”
So, what’s included?
• T.D. Jakes’ sermon notes
• Real time access to Sunday preaching from The Potter’s House of Dallas
• Other audio and visual content like interactive videos, podcasts
• Study aids such as devotionals, e-books & other materials that make the bible experience come alive
Despite leading a Dallas-based membership of more than 30,000, and reaching millions with his weekly sermons through The Potter’s Touch, Jakes believes more can be done to reach people with the gospel which is always the ultimate goal as a Christian. So, not only could the App have an individual effect, Jakes hopes its community impact will extend beyond just the technology.
“With sharing biblical content the goal is to fulfill the Great Commission—Matthew 28:16-20—“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.”
While door to door outreach continues to have its place, it seems Bishop Jakes’ unprecedented foray into the digital arena as a leading Biblical authority has the potential to leave an indelible mark on the community.
“The proliferation of digital devices has given more people in the community easy access to the Bible so that they can search the Word for themselves, study at their own pace and find answers to life’s questions,” Jakes shares.
“With this App they can also tap into study guides, access daily devotionals to enhance their personal relationship with Christ or review their favorite sermons with notes from (me) at their leisure.”
Jakes describes the App as “one of the most user-friendly Apps currently on the market. The site layout, feature design, and navigation are intuitive.”
As for the cost, the base App is free, but Jakes tells JET that users will later have the option to purchase exclusive T.D. Jakes content.
