For the past year, I have built JesusHacks to engage over 3,000 readers with practical ways to live like Jesus in daily life. The articles on this website have been shared thousands of times by thousands of people. For months, I’ve been receiving emails from around the world of people who have been impacted by this platform.
But now, I’m afraid it is time for me to move onto what God has for me next.
Starting this week, I will be transitioning to work with my new business, EssentialHustle.com.
Essential Hustle is a new brand that I developed, meant to be the consolidation of JesusHacks and my digital marketing business, Start Creating Stuff.
You might be wondering how this merging works. Well, the mission of Essential Hustle is to help entrepreneurs prioritize what matters in life, business, and marketing. Basically, I talk about how entrepreneurs (or any individual really) can live quiet lives of character by building online businesses that are focused on the essentials.
You see, entrepreneurs (like myself) struggle with spreading themselves thin, and as a result, skewing their priorities in life. On Essential Hustle, I help individuals get back to the essentials and focus only on what matters in their business so that they can live with character. When entrepreneurs chase every marketing opportunity, or chance to grow their business, they often lead hectic, busy lives that are so contradictory to the lives of character we are suppose to lead.
I feel called to help these entrepreneurs.
Reasons for the Transition
There are other reasons why I am making this transition. To share a few:
1. I want to speak to the secular community about character.
While I have excelled at speaking to a largely Christian audience, I feel called to expand into the secular realm. When I used to work in a church, my pastors and mentors told me I was skilled at communicating the Gospel to non-Christians. But in building JesusHacks, I’ve drifted from utilizing that skill.
I believe by changing to a secular brand, I can have further impact for the Kingdom.
So I will be speaking about character to people who need to hear it.
2. I was spread too thin.
Essential Hustle is really the result of my own life. I lived a life where I spread myself too thin, and I suffered from it.
Basically, it was too difficult for me to keep up with two brands. I wanted to develop one steady stream of content so I wouldn’t feel like I was balancing two different jobs.
Tell me: are you spreading yourself thin? Are you also balancing aspects of your life instead of focusing on the essentials?
3. I want to make a different impact.
When I started JesusHacks, I wanted to empower Christians with practical tools to make a difference by living like Jesus in certain areas of life. That was the original vision.
However, after a period of time, I found that I wasn’t changing people’s lives the way I wanted to. In essence, I wasn’t giving people something practical to do. I wasn’t giving people anything more than advice.
By switching to Essential Hustle, I’m hoping that my impact would be to tangibly help people build online businesses so they can focus on what matters in life. It’s more than walking away with advice. With Essential Hustle, people will walk away with a business to show for their engagement.
4. God has given me gifts I want to use.
While writing Jesus Workforce, I realized that I wasn’t living according to my gifts, passions, and calling.
Over the past few years, I found that I really had a gift for helping businesses expand their digital reach. I love helping people build their online platforms. Also, I love helping people build these platforms so they can make a difference with their ideas and with their lives.
In other words, I feel like God is calling me to serve a particular group of people—and I’m responding.
Essential Hustle is my way to practically help entrepreneurs.
How Will JesusHacks Continue?
By now, you’re probably wondering what I mean when I say “or is it?”
First off, I’m asking for those of you who are interested in my writings on character, and are also interested in how you can grow your business online, to join me over at EssentialHustle.com. I will still be talking about character like I have done in this post and this post, but I will also focus on growing businesses online.
That’s one way JesusHacks will continue to live on—in my writings on character.
But also, JesusHacks will continue to stay live—but with a twist.
I’m currently looking for a successor to the JesusHacks brand. What I have built is a powerful brand and idea, and I want it to continue living though I will not be involved in it.
All that to say, if you or anyone you know would like to inherit the JesusHacks brand, let me know! I will keep you informed about the transition in ownership, if it ever happens.
