Puff Stitch Necklace

This simple and elegant necklace works up quickly using chain sts, puff sts, and a few slip sts. It is reminiscent of a layered chain and bead necklace, but much lighter to wear. With 3 different lengths to choose from, you can pick the one that looks best on you! This pattern is written out with photos to help along the way, and a video to aid the more visual learners. This necklace looks stunning in variegated yarn, but it would also be lovely changing colors every round with 2 or more solid colors, or even just in one color.

YARN:
Almost any ribbon yarn will work, for the samples seen here I used Prism Yarns Tencel Tape in Mojave.
One skein will make all 3 necklaces.
HOOK:
4.00mm/US G
TECHNIQUES USED:
ch ~ Chain
sl st ~ Slip Stitch
puff st ~ Puff Stitch: [yo, insert hook into st, yo, pull through st] 4 times, all in the same st (9 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 9 loops, puff stitch made.
Here is a video to help you with the techniques. The patterns for the all 3 necklaces (3 lengths) follow the video.
SHORT NECKLACE:
Rnd 1: Ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 7, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 6 times, ch 7, sl st into the first ch made, and then sl st into the second ch made to form a circle.
Rnd 2: Ch 11, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 7, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 6 times, ch 11, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 3: Ch 15, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 7, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 6 times, ch 15, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 4: Ch 20, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 7, pull last ch to ½” tall, ps in first ch from hook) 6 times, ch 20, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 5: Ch 11, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 7, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 8 times, ch 11, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Fasten off leaving a long tail. Wrap tail around the slip st portion of the necklace, covering the slip sts. Finish off.
MEDIUM NECKLACE:
Rnd 1: Ch 11, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 6 times, ch 9, sl st into the first ch made, and then sl st into the second ch made to form a circle.
Rnd 2: Ch 15, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 6 times, ch 15, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 3: Ch 11, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 7 times, ch 11, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 4: Ch 17, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, ps in first ch from hook) 7 times, ch 17, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 5: Ch 13, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 8 times, ch 13, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Fasten off leaving a long tail. Wrap tail around the slip st portion of the necklace, covering the slip sts. Finish off.
LONG NECKLACE:
Rnd 1: Ch 11, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 6 times, ch 9, sl st into the first ch made, and then sl st into the second ch made to form a circle.
Rnd 2: Ch 12, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 7 times, ch 12, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 3: Ch 15, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 8 times, ch 15, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 4: Ch 18, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, ps in first ch from hook) 9 times, ch 18, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Rnd 5: Ch 21, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook, (ch 9, pull last ch to ½” tall, puff st in first ch from hook) 10 times, ch 21, sl st into both sl sts from previous round.
Fasten off leaving a long tail. Wrap tail around the slip st portion of the necklace, covering the slip sts. Finish off.
