View of Temple Mount and Mount of Olives from Abu Tor in Jerusalem

1. THINGS ARE INTENSIFYING ABOVE THE HOLY MOUNTAIN.

“Thus says YHVH of Armies, ‘I will return to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of YHVH of Armies will be called The Holy Mountain.” (Zechariah 8:3)

In June of 1967 the mountain just west of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem came for the first time in 2500 years to be under Jewish rule. This was the mountain in the land of Moriah upon which Abraham had offered up Isaac. It was the “Mountain of the LORD’s Inheritance,” about which Moses and the children of Israel prophetically sang after crossing the Red Sea, The Mountain to which the He would “bring them in and plant them” (Exodus 15:16b-17). It was this same “Mount Moriah” upon which David had purchased a threshing floor from Ornan the Jebusite for 600 shekels of gold, and built an altar there at the command of the LORD (I Chron. 22:25). On it his son Solomon built a magnificent temple, following the plans given by the Spirit of God to his father (I Chron. 28:11-12; II Chron. 3:1). And when the work was all completed during the Festival of Sukkot, it was into the Temple upon this mountain that the Cloud of the LORD’s Presence came, filling it so that the priests could not stand. For almost 400 years this Skhinah—this glorious Presence of the LORD dwelt there—until a terrible day when, because of His people’s grievous sin, it departed, was carried out of the Temple, over the city, over the Mount of Olives, and was gone (Ezekiel 10:18; 11:22-23). The people whom He had brought to His mountain, to whom He had entrusted its custodianship, beheld it invaded, the holy Temple destroyed, and they and their children uprooted and taken away into captivity.

But Ezekiel had also a redemptive prophetic word regarding this Mountain and this covenant people in latter days:

‘For on My holy mountain, on the mountain height of Israel,’ says Adonai YHVH, ‘there all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, shall serve Me; there I will accept them…I will accept you as a sweet aroma when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered; and I will be hallowed in you before the Nations’ (Ezekiel 20:40-41).

And Isaiah 27:13 prophesies a day when “A great shofar will be sounded, and they will come, who are about to perish in the land of Assyria, and they who are outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship YHVH in the holy mount at Jerusalem.”

Yet the Ezekiel passage above goes on to say that after being brought back into the land, Israel will come to a place of deep knowledge and conviction concerning her sin—“all your doings with which you were defiled; and you shall loathe yourselves in your own sight because of all the evils that you have committed. Then you shall know that I am YHVH, when I have dealt with you for My name’s sake.” (vs 43-44) Praise God, there is an awakened and growing remnant of Messianic Jews in Israel today—but for the most part this section of the prophecy has not yet taken place. Nor has the Spirit of grace and supplication spoken of by Zechariah the prophet (12:10) been poured out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem so that they “look on Me whom they pierced.” Israel still does not have “clean hands and a pure heart”— she is not yet ready to “serve and worship” the Holy One on His mountain.

NEVERTHELESS, GOD HAS FOR THE PAST 47 YEARS CHOSEN SOVEREIGNLY TO ALLOW HIS RETURNED PEOPLE A MEASURE OF OVERSIGHT OVER HIS HILL. In the 1967 war, Israel wrested control of the Temple Mount from Jordan. Yet she was immediately faced with a dilemma. It was not only Jordan—Muslims all over the world have been taught that this mountain is Al Aqsa—the “farthest place” or “farthest mosque” which Mohammed visited (in a dream or otherwise) in 621 A.D., and from which he ascended to heaven to speak with Allah and to bring back the tenets of their faith (Interestingly, Al Aqsa wasn’t finally identified with Jerusalem until some 50 years after Mohammed’s death). The Mountain is thus considered the 3rd most sacred place in Islam—and bears upon its surface the Dome of the Rock and the Al Aqsa mosque. Because of this, shortly after the war, Israel’s secular leaders established an arrangement which become a sort of status quo. Although Israel considers the Mount to fall within its national sovereign boundaries, there are no Jewish or Christian buildings on the mountain, only Islamic. Muslims are its primary visitants. They are allowed general freedom to worship in the mosque, visit the Dome of the Rock, sit or walk among the gardens. The Mount is administered and overseen by a Jordanian Waqf force. Non-Muslims may also visit the mountain during certain hours, but are not allowed openly to pray. The Mount is jointly patrolled by Israeli and Jordanian security forces.

The Temple Mount has been a place of contention which has simmered and at times flared since Israel gained control. The King of Jordan would like to build a fifth minaret there; Israel has so far not allowed it. During the Barak/Arafat/Clinton peace talks, the absurd proposition was floated of allowing the Palestinians to “have” the surface of the mountain and fly their flag there, and the Jews could claim what was underneath (although they durstn’t attempt to go down there!). This resulted in a massive demonstration organized by Natan Sharansky in which some 500,000 people (the authors among them) on short notice gathered around the Old City’s walls to declare that the Temple Mount was integral to Israel’s identity and must ever remain a part of Jerusalem and of the Jewish State. From time to time, especially when Israel begins digging or building new structures anywhere in the vicinity, this has been seen as occasion for Muslim Arabs in Israel and the surrounding nations to sound alarms that Israel is coming in to destroy Al Aqsa, calling Muslims to arms. The truth is that the Israeli Government has not known what to do with the Temple Mount. Although there are some relatively small religious groups which have declared to prepare for building a temple there, reports of this in the West are greatly exaggerated. Most of Israel is secular and not interested in a temple, although hesitant to ‘let go’ of such an ancient and vital part of our history and culture. Among the religious there is great dispute as to what might constitute the circumstances for beginning building it. In fact, because of the present desecration by the Muslim buildings on the mountain, or fear of desecrating it by walking inadvertently in holy areas, many sects do not allow their followers to ascend it at all.

Yet in recent months, tensions have markedly increased on both sides. More and more religious Jews are questioning the right of Israel to attempt to “keep the peace” by not allowing them openly to express their faith and to pray at this, the most holy site in Judaism. Religious MKs have recently introduced legislation in the Knesset aimed at allowing Jews by law to be allowed to pray on the mountain, and demanding that Israel use force when necessary to insure their rights be honoured. (At present, violent demonstrations most often result in the police simply closing the place down to non-Muslims for the rest of the day). The Muslims, meanwhile, have begun more and more to harass Jewish and even Christian visitors. Youth are enlisted to gather stones and even fire-bombs in the vicinity of the Mosque, with which to attack visitors, or those worshipping at the Western Wall below. The Israeli forces have for years had stocks of large plastic shields laid out for use in fending off the stones when they are forced to storm the Mount in order to bring order. Groups of Muslim women position themselves at strategic positions round the top of the mount, and when they spot someone or a group in openly religious Jewish garb, they pull coverings over their faces and descend upon them shrieking abuse and demanding that they leave. Presently religious Jews visiting the mountain require police guards around them even to come for a few moments.

Last Wednesday, following intelligence suggesting Arab youth were waiting on the mountain with intention to riot, the Israeli commander ordered what is often resorted to in such circumstances, only Mulsim worshippers over 50 would be allowed up that day. But this time it resulted in a massive demonstration of hundreds of Muslims, including several Arab members of the Knesset. Some of the protestors held signs “Al Aqsa belongs to us, not to the Jews,” and “We will enter the mosque with force and sacrifice our lives and our families’ lives for al-Aqsa.” One female Arab MK, notorious for showing up at such occasions, argued with soldiers, “There is no solution without Palestinian sovereignty over Jerusalem, even if Netanyahu doesn’t want this!” On Friday Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared that Israeli “settlers” have no right to “desecrate” the mount, that Jews should be prevented from entering the site “by any means…It is our sacred place, al-Aqsa is ours, this Noble Sanctuary is ours. They have no right to go there and desecrate it.” The following day the President referred to Jewish visitors as “a herd of cattle.” (This from the Palestinian President with whom Israel is supposed to be pursuing peace). On Sunday graffiti was discovered on the mountain equating swastikas with the Star of David.

It has been said that the last great battle will be over Who shall be worshipped on this Mountain!

On the NW side of the outer octagonal arcade of the Dome of the Rock can be found the following inscription in Arabic, “There is no god but Allah, He is One. Praise be to Allah, who hath not taken unto himself a son, and who hath no partner in the sovereignty, nor hath he any protecting friend through dependence.”

In Psalm 2:6-7 of the Hebrew Bible the God of Israel declares, “Yet I have set my King on My holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: Yehovah has said to me, ‘You are my son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of me, and I will give the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for your possession.’”

A great collision is coming. Satan hates the ultimate holy destiny of the place. Israel is for the most part not yet at a place where she knows how to defend or administer the mountain which has been released into her care—or how to pray for it. Psalm 122:6 (Hebrew) calls upon us to “ask after the peace of Jerusalem.”  In our asking, may it include a request for guidance in our prayers regarding this place where God has forever placed His name, and where His Son will one day reign. We believe it is a praying His Kingdom Come to pray for His purposes on the Holy Mountain:

*For Daniel in Babylon, it was important to present “my supplication before the LORD my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God.” (Daniel 9:20)

*Isaiah 65:11 appears to equate those “who forget My holy mountain” with those “who forsake the LORD.”

*Isaiah 56:6 says of the sons of foreigners who join themselves to the LORD, to serve Him and to love His name, “Even them I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer.”

PLEASE PRAY:

*For divine guidance for the Israeli government in administering the Temple Mount today. Pray for a realization that it is Holy, and true wisdom for its administration will require the Fear of the LORD and guidance from Above.

*For protection and leading in Truth (Psalm 25:5) for the many believers from the nations and from right here in Israel who ascend the Mountain (some weekly) and move about on it praying God’s Kingdom Come!

*For houses of worship and prayer about Jerusalem. We are aware of at least four which the LORD has raised up which have a physical view of the Mountain. Pray for the deep unction and inspiration of the Holy Spirit as they “Exalt the LORD our god, and worship towards His Holy Hill—for holy is YHVH our God!” (Psalm 99:9).

*For the Kingdom of Jordan. The King of this land (which encompasses ancient Moab) considers himself to be a direct descendant of Mohammed, and a divinely chosen custodian of this Muslim holy site. Isaiah 25:10-12 predicts a profound humbling of the proud power (Islam?) represented by Moab/Jordan, a humbling under the Hand of the LORD which will take place on this mountain.

*For revelation of Elohei-Yisrael—the Israel-God, who is the God of all the Earth—and of His Son to the thousands of Muslims who journey to worship on the Temple Mount. Pray Isaiah 25:6-8 (see below) over the veil of Islam which is “spread over all nations”—that its power will be broken on this mountain!

And in this mountain the LORD of Armies will make for all people a feast of choice pieces, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of well-refined wines on the lees. And He will destroy on this mountain the surface of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever, and Adonai YHVH will wipe away tears from all faces; the rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; for YHVH has spoken! (Isaiah 25:6-8)

THIS WEEK’S TORAH PORTION:

From ancient times there has been a weekly portion (Parashah) from the first five books of Moses (The Torah) and an ending (Haftarah) from the Prophets read on the Sabbath in synagogues around the world. This portion is given a Hebrew name drawn from the opening words of the Torah passage. An illustration of this practice appears to have been recorded in Luke 4:16 where Yeshua (Jesus) arrived in the synagogue in Nazareth and was asked to read the portion (Isaiah 61) from the Prophets. We have found that in perusing these weekly readings, not only are we provided opportunity to identify in the context of God’s Word with millions of Jewish people around the world, but very often the Holy Spirit will illumine specific passages pertinent that week in our intercession for the Land and people of Israel. All texts are those of English translations of the Scriptures.

The readings for this week are called Noach—“Noah”—a name related to rest, calm, comfort and consolation.

TORAH: Genesis 6:9—11:32

HAFTARAH: Isaiah 54:1—55:5*

*This Saturday will be Rosh Hodesh (Head of the Month) for the Eighth Hebrew month. The Babylonian name Cheshvan is used on modern calendars, although an ancient Canaanite name Bul is used in I Kings 6:38 when the First Temple was completed. Because this Shabbat is a Rosh Hodesh, many Synagogues will substitute a special Haftarah reading Isaiah 66:1-24, 23 for the normally-read one listed above.

*Genesis 6:9. “Noah was a just man, perfect (or, “blameless”) in his generations; Noah walked with God.”

“Perfect” or “blameless” are translations of the Hebrew word tome, which may, as in Psalm 25:21, also be rendered “integrity”: “Let integrity and uprightness guard me for I wait for you” (NKJV). In Psalm 101 David uses this word three times regarding his every-day walk within his house, “I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will you come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house. I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away, it shall not cling to me…My eyes shall be upon the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; He who walks in a blameless way is the one who will minister to me” (Psalm 101:2-4, 6). Even as Noah, living in a perverse and exceedingly sinful world, was through his “walk with God” enabled to govern his personal walk and that of his house with integrity, it is of paramount importance that those of us living in a time which is rapidly becoming “as it was in the days of Noah” to hold close to our “walk with God,” to in integrity ponder the way we walk, the things we allow access into our dwellings (and thence into our eyes and those of our families!), and with whom we associate and allow ourselves to be influenced.

*Genesis 6:11-13. “Now the earth had gone to ruin before God, the earth was filled with wrongdoing. God saw the earth, and here: it had gone to ruin, for all flesh had ruined its way upon the earth. God said to Noah: An end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with wrongdoing through them: here, I am about to bring ruin upon them, along with the earth” (Everett Fox translation; emphases ours).

Flesh, given its lead, brings ruin and destruction. As alluded to above, in the New Covenant Yeshua prophesied that in latter days, it will again be “as it was in the days of Noah.” Zechariah 2:11-13 instructs us that in those days, as Messiah draws near to “again take possession of Judah and to choose Jerusalem,” and the LORD is “aroused from His holy habitation”—it will be imperative for Believers that they (as did Noah) say “HUSH” (Hebrew: Hass! vs 13) to the flesh. Either we crucify it in the power of the Holy Spirit, or it will, as in the days of Noah, be our ruin.

*Genesis 6:14. “Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms [or nests] in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.” The English word “ark” is used here for Hebrew teva which means a box or case (the word is used for ‘mailbox’ in Israel today). It is the same as that used to shelter the baby Moses in Exodus 2:3 (The “Ark of the Covenant” uses a different Hebrew word).

There is much redemption pictured here. The very Hebrew word translated “cover” and “pitch” (kopher) is identical with the word for atonement. In I Peter 3:18-22 the apostle Peter pictures the ark as a type of our salvation in Yeshua, our consciences being baptized through His death and resurrection.

*Genesis 7:4. “For after seven more days, I will cause it to rain on the earth…” It is God who “causes it to rain on the earth.” As mentioned last week, we have now entered into the time of the “Former Rains” in Israel (these come in the fall and winter, the “Latter Rains” arrive in spring). PLEASE PRAY that God will have mercy upon Israel and, as He did in Noah’s day, open the windows of heaven—not for judgment but in mercy. As we have often mentioned, Isaiah 41:17-20 speaks of a time when Israel will cry out for water and be heard by her God—Who will do creative works to release water in unexpected places to the end “that they may see and know, and consider and understand together, that the hand of the LORD has done this, and the Holy One of Israel has created it.”

*Genesis 7:15. “They (the animals) came to Noah into the ark…of all flesh in which is the spirit of life.”

*Genesis 9:4a. “Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs (NKJV). God is the One who has now “given” humankind meat to eat, as well as plants. We are to honour each man’s conscience before God with regard to personal decisions to eat or not eat meat (Romans 14). However, it is difficult to reconcile with this Scripture the teachings of some who hold that God’s ideal for humankind today is the meatless sustenance afforded them in Eden and before the Flood. That was a season which has been taken away and may not, we suspect, be returned until the final “revealing of the sons of God” (Romans 8:19-25).

*Genesis 9:4b. “But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.”

The word usually translated “life” in Hebrew is chaim. Yet here, the word nephesh—“soul” is used—“But you shall not eat flesh with its soul, that is, its blood.”

This will be reiterated in Leviticus 17:13-14, “Whatever man of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell among you, who hunts and catches any animal or bird that may be eaten, he shall pour out its blood and cover it with dust; for it is the soul of all flesh. Its blood sustains its soul. Therefore I said to the children of Israel, ‘You shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the soul of all flesh is its blood.”

In Genesis 2:7, “The LORD God formed man of the dust of the earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life [i.e. chaim], and man became a living soul [i.e. nephesh]”. The animals also were called nephesh-chayah—“living souls” (1:24), but they were not “formed by God” from the earth as was Man; nor did God personally breath His into them the breath of life, nor release a creative act making them into His image 1:26-27). So “soul” relates to a life-factor in the blood of living creatures—but different in man from that in animals. We are not implying that the individual spirit of a human being is present in every drop of his blood. But blood carries life throughout the body, it is precious to the God of Life, and was not to be consumed as a nourishment-source for man. This is not just a prohibition under the Mosaic “Law” (Leviticus passage above); it was prohibited here to Noah and his descendants by God long before that Law, and it was prohibited for the Believing Body of Messiah (both Jew and Gentile) after the Lord’s return to heaven (Acts 15:20).

When Cain murdered Abel, the “voice of [his] brothers blood cried out” to God from the ground.

The soul that sins must die, and all have sinned…so death reigns in the very blood-line of all children of Adam. Except for One. The Blood of the virgin-born Saviour, the “Second Adam”, Yeshua, was pure and without sin (Hebrews 4:15). Thus, it could “sprinkle many nations” (Isaiah 52:15) with a “sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel (Hebrews 12:24). God made “His soul an offering for sin” (Isaiah 53:10)—and with the shedding of His blood, “He poured out His soul (nephesh) unto death” and “bore the sin of many” (53:12).

*Genesis 9:20-21. “And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. Then he drank of the wine and was intoxicated (root: shekhar), and became uncovered in his tent.”

This is the first place in the Bible where intoxicating drink is mentioned. The Hebrew word for wine is ya’in, and the root word for both intoxicating drink and “becoming intoxicated” is shekhar. In this week’s reading, Noah discovered the intoxicating properties of fermented grape juice and was put to shame by its misuse. If one unwisely allows oneself to be led astray by alcohol, it becomes a mocker leading into foolish acts and violence.

(Prov. 20:1) “Wine is a mocker, strong drink (shekhar) is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.”

God speaks an extremely serious warning to religious leaders who err in the misuse of alcohol: they tarnish the beauty of the ministry which they lead, and if they persist, the prophetic vision and judgment with which God equipped them for administration over His people will begin to fail them.

(Isaiah 28:1, 7) “Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards (shekhar) of Ephraim , whose glorious beauty is a fading flower which is at the head of the verdant valleys, to those who are overcome with wine!…But they have erred through wine, and through intoxicating drink (shekhar) are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through intoxicating drink (shekhar), they are swallowed up by wine, they are out of the way through intoxicating drink (shekhar) ; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment” (Emphases ours).

Yet the Bible does not teach that partaking of wine in moderation is sin; in fact, it strongly implies that God intends such drink may be a joy and a blessing for humankind if taken as before the LORD our God (in the light of His presence): Deuteronomy 14:22-26—“You shall truly tithe all the increase of your grain that the field produces year by year. And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place where He chooses to make His name abide, the tithe of your grain and your new wine and your oil, of the firstborn of your herds and your flocks, that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always. But if the journey is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, or if the place where the LORD your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, when the LORD your God has blessed you, then you shall exchange it for money, take the money in your hand, and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses. And you shall spend that money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen or sheep, for wine or strong drink (shekhar), for whatever your heart desires; you shall eat there before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household “ (Emphases ours). Genesis 43:34—“So they (i.e. Joseph’s brothers) drank and were merry (shekhar) with him.” John 2:1-11— Yeshua’s first recorded miracle in which He “manifested His glory” was turning water at a Jewish wedding into wine.

Yet, not in drunkenness, but in the self-control (temperance) of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26). Believers may be led to abstain from strong drink, as those who chose to separate themselves to the Lord by a Nazirite vow would abstain from wine and strong drink (shekhar) all the days of their separation (Numbers 6:2-4). Nor are those who move in a freedom to drink wine to judge or seek to coerce those whose conscience forbids them from that freedom (Romans 14).

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah, submitting to one another out of reverence for Messiah.”

(Ephesians 5:18)

*Genesis 10:25. “To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided…” The word may mean “split apart”, “broken away into sections.” Some have suggested that this may actually allude to a period in which at least some of the continental shiftings discernible on modern-day maps took place. Which might explain why, for instance, the four rivers branching out from the large one coming out of Eden (Genesis 2:10-14) no longer appear to be in that same relation to each other. Some even suggest that before this shifting, Eden itself was located where Jerusalem is today…making the place where the “First Adam” sinned the place where that sin was atoned for in the death of the “Second Adam”, Yeshua. It is interesting that Jewish tradition teaches that Adam and Eve are both buried in Hebron, only 30 km south of Jerusalem on the plot of land purchased by Abraham (Genesis 23) as a burial place for Sarah, and which eventually held Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, and Jacob and Leah.

Haftarah

This week’s reading from the prophet Isaiah is filled with God’s heart and merciful plan for His people Israel. Ask God to use these verses to help in your prayers. Pray that the souls of those who hear them read in synagogues this weekend will be quickened with divine revelation! Pray that Israel will know that she is loved, that she will be convicted of her sin and need for a Redeemer, that she will understand that the LORD Himself is her only Redeemer and that her righteousness comes from Him!

*Isaiah 54:5. “For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.” The God of all the earth has sovereignly chosen to identify Himself with the name He gave to his servant Jacob—Israel. Nations or religions which will not humble themselves to acknowledge this “identification” will find themselves standing against the very God of all nations and the universe itself.

*Isaiah 54:7-10. “ ‘For a mere moment I have forsaken you, but with great mercies I will gather you. With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you,’ says the LORD, your Redeemer. ‘For this is like the waters of Noah to Me, For as I have sworn that the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of shalom be removed,’ says the LORD who has mercy on you”.

*Isaiah 54:13-15. “All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. In righteousness you shall be established; You shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you. Indeed they shall surely assemble, but not because of Me, whoever assembles against you shall fall for your sake.”

*Isaiah 54:17. “ ‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from Me,’ says the LORD.”

*Isaiah 55:1-3. “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you—the sure mercies of David.”
