Your Jr. Chef can pop whole grains
Crunchy and almost nutty. Amaranth, quinoa and millet pop like popcorn but tinier and quieter. Buy fresh (from bulk?) from a store with high turnover. Using a dry, heavy-bottomed (cast iron best) skillet heated to med-low, pop 1 T grains at a time, shaking gently while listening to the ‘soft’ sound of popping. Remove to cookie sheet to cool, and repeat. Scatter over braised vegetables, kale salad, mashed potatoes, salads, granola, yogurt, over ice cream for texture. 1/4 C small whole grains = about 1 C popped. How will you enjoy popped whole grains?
