A healthy body begets a healthy mind and vice versa. Food sustains us, it enriches our mind as much as it fuels our bodies. A healthy diet comprises of a mix of all food types – moderation is key. Spiritually, the prophet was fond of these foods, and with good reason. Each of the foods listed below also has a short note on it’s properties. If you don’t already have all these foods in your diet, you might want to after reading their properties !
Meat (ﺖﺷﻮﮔ):
Prophet Muhammad (ﻪﻟﺍﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ ﻢﻠﺳﻭ) said.”Meat is the king of foods”,
For some of us, meat is a part of our daily diet. Some others have misconceptions that meat is too “fatty” and try to limit its intake as much as possible. While meat is essentially rich in fat, it is also a huge source of protein, iron, zinc and selenium. Selenium is an excellent mineral for great skin ladies! Meat also boosts immunity and natural strength and endurance.
2. Dates ( ﺭﻮﺠﮭﮐ ):
Dates are only for fasts, most kids these days complain. Wrong. Dates are a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals as well as a great source of fiber, vitamin-A, iron, Potassium, calcium, manganese, copper and vitamin B-6. In short, they are a complete burst of energy and nutrition to the body. Any wonder then that one breaks fast with them ?
3. Figs ( ﺮﻴﺠﻧﺍ ):
Figs enrich bone strength, they lower cholesterol and have minimal calories.
4. Grapes ( ﺭﻮﮕﻧﺍ ):
The Prophet ( ﻢﻠﺳﻭ ﻪﻟﺍﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ) ) was extremely fond of grapes. Grapes are excellent blood purifiers and cleanse the kidneys, they are major antioxidants that your body could do with.
5. Honey ( ﺪﮩﺷ ):
Prophet Muhammad (ﻪﻟﺍﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ ﻢﻠﺳﻭ) preaches that “Honey is the cure of every stomach disease”.
A glass of warm water with lemon juice and honey in the mornings is a health and skin tonic. The prophet used to drink honey + water in morning; it is also considered the best remedy for diarrhea when mixed in hot water. Honey is the only food that never spoils! It is a natural hydrant and cleanses and purifies the system naturally – more effective than any over the counter treatment.
6. Melons ( ﺍﺩﺮﺳ – ﺍﺯﻮﺑﺮﺧ – ﺯﻮﺑﺮﺗ ):
Melons are nature’s own foods rich in water content and energy, they fill you up quickly without adding excess calories. They are also extremely good for fertility as the prophet (ﻢﻠﺳﻭ ﻪﻟﺍﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ) said: ‘None of your women who are pregnant and eat of water melon will fail to produce offspring that are good in countenance.
7. Milk:
The Prophet(ﻢﻠﺳﻭ ﻪﻟﺍﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ) believes that milk cools the body and mind and is very helpful for eyesight.
8. Olive & Olive Oil ( ﻥﻮﺘﻳﺯ )
The Quran mentions that Prophet Muhammad ( ﻢﻠﺳﻭ ﻪﻟﺍﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ) olive oil consumption and application locally clears about seventy diseases , one of them beingLeprosy.” Olives are said to be the food of Gods. Olive oil also benefits skin and hair, delays old age, and treats inflammation of the stomach.
9. Pomegranate ( ﺭﺎﻧﺍ ):
The Prophet ( ﻢﻠﺳﻭ ﻪﻟﺍﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ) said it cleanses you of evil thoughts and evil deeds for about 40 days
10. Vinegar ( ﮧﮐﺮﺳ ):
Prophet Muhammad (ﻪﻟﺍﻭ ﻪﻴﻠﻋ ﻪﻠﻟﺍ ﻰﻠﺻ ﻢﻠﺳﻭ) once said vinegar is the best curry. It is a natural cleanser and anti-bacterial wash.
11. Water ( ﻲﻧﺎﭘ ):
Water is the elixir of life. Sipping water throughout the day calms the body and mind and brings peace.
12. Squash or Pumpkin (ﻭﺪﮐ):
Pumpkins were Prophet Muhammad(SAW)’s favorite vegetable. Pumpkins are not easily available but are loaded with goodness and benefits and protect the vital organs like lungs and liver.
