Law firm Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC (Spilman) made a PR wave this week by launching an employment law app for iOS devices. The new app, available on the Apple App Store, is available free, and is meant to help corporate executives, general counsel, small business owners and HR professionals find answers to questions they frequently face.

Before being able to access the app, named the SuperVision Labor & Employment Reference Tool, you have to agree to the fact that the “app is to be considered for informational use only, and not to be construed as legal advice. Using the application or information contained therein does not constitute or create an attorney-client relationship between you and Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC or any attorney associated with this firm. This app does not offer legal or professional advice on specific facts or matters and, accordingly, neither Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC, the app creators nor developers assume any liability whatsoever in connection with its use. This app should not be used as a substitute for competent legal advice from a licensed professional attorney in your state or jurisdiction.”

Eric W. Iskra, chair of Spilman’s labor and employment practice group said, “We are excited to share the latest information on human resources issues and regulations via this new channel … this app is a perfect complement to our SuperVision labor and employment symposium series and our quarterly e-newsletter. Finding new ways to deliver additional value to our clients is always front-of-mind at Spilman.”

The app helps users enter into common employment law situations armed with information about overtime pay, final wage payment, employee complaints on social media and more. The app uses a simple decision tree, where users can get a better idea of the pros and cons involved in the matter they are facing, and it becomes easier to seek legal counsel.
