Position Description: EMC/EMI Engineer/Technician

Responsible for the analog and EMC design, development, and production support of real-time control systems. These control systems will include such features as built in test and diagnostics, to meet performance requirements as well as design-to-cost and producibility requirements. All designs are required to meet emissions and severe threat levels associated with MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 for HIRF and Lightning, as well as, environmental conditions as defined in MIL-STD-810 and DO-160.

Generation of EMC assurance plans and test plans/reports is required, as is, support of offsite testing during development and qualification. Performance of worst case analyses for environmental effects, electrical stress, and tolerance stack-up are required.

Strong analog design, analysis, and troubleshooting skills are essential with digital experience a plus. Required skills include input and output buffering, power supply and power circuit design. Knowledge of Cadence HDL design tools is desirable.

Candidate must be experienced in circuit board layout techniques and have a thorough understanding of designing for electromagnetic compatibility, including design for compliance to MIL-STD-461 and/or DO-160 threats and emissions levels. Familiarity with Power Factor Correction, Harmonic Distortion, AC (115V 3 phase), and 270V systems desirable.

Excellent written, communication and presentation skills are required. The ability to work in a team based environment is mandatory. Candidate should possess good documentation habits.

Experience with qualification of electronic controllers is a plus. Experience with electronic control systems for gas turbine engines, power electronics, 3 phase motor controls is a plus. Experience with T/C, RTD, Bridge Pressure Sensors, Speed Sensors, Oil Level Sensor designs – any or all are a plus.

Successful candidate will be able to discuss design experience in detail including selection of components, design of system architecture, challenges encountered and solutions implemented.

Qualified applicant must have bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field. EMC coursework or EMC design experience are a plus but not required. Applicant must be self-motivated and willing to seek out opportunities to take initiative and assume new responsibilities. Candidate will be expected to work in fluid, ambiguous situations and use sound judgment to take appropriate action even when all of the required information is not available.

Essential Job Functions:

* Execute Drawing and producibility actions of Installation drawings and complete supplier tests

* Complete APU Component qual tests including fire enclosure fire tests and spin pit and others

* Review test procedures and monitor the test organization for on time execution of testing.

* Review test reports

* Develop Flight test instrumentation, including interfaces, drawings and flight test instrumentation between the customer and the internal test organization.

* Provide engineering direction to Suppliers for hardware procurement

* Execute cost accounting for program

* Track performance and resources inside the Tiger cost tool.

* Drive completion of Standard Work activities through monthly audits.

* Draft Proposals for Cost Improvement Programs, assertions, or new business.

* Initiate or Execute Engineering Changes

* Engineering Instructions and Development Test Requests

* Coordinate program documentation including coordination memos, Deliverable lists, etc.

* Status Hardware Procurement

Qualifications

 Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical field.

 Demonstrated ability to use basic EMC lab equipment including receivers, signal generators, antennas and amplifiers.

 Ability to troubleshoot test setups.

 Localize cause of test failures to either test support equipment or EUT.

 Strong MS Office skills. Visio a plus.

 General knowledge of Aerospace mechanical and electrical components, constant speed drives, pumps, hydraulics, actuators, gearboxes, starter / generators a plus

 Must be able to work/communicate effectively in a team/ multi-disciplinary environment.

 Ability to develop and present business correspondences required

 Experience working in ambiguous situations required, such as taking action when all the information is not available
