**Levine Children’s Hospital**
Levine Children’s Hospital, opened in 2007, is the largest, most comprehensive children’s hospital between Washington, DC and Atlanta, GA; consisting of 12 floors, 234 total beds and providing services in all pediatric subspecialties. It is the centerpiece for children’s care within the Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS) – the second largest nonprofit health system in the US. CHS is comprised of 42 hospitals, spanning both North and South Carolina. Levine Children’s Hospital is located on the campus of the flagship CHS hospital, Carolinas Medical Center; conveniently located near uptown Charlotte, NC.

**The Congenital Heart Center at Levine Children’s Hospital and Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute**
Despite the relative youth of the Congenital Heart Center – established in 2010 – the program has already been ranked twice as one of the top-50 pediatric heart centers in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Surgical highlights include > 95% Norwood survival, neonatal mortality rates well below national benchmarks, and an overall 30-day surgical survival rate of 98%. Case volume has expanded by greater than 30% over the past 3 years; expected to exceed 400 total cases in 2013.

There are currently two surgeons with subspecialty certification in Congenital Cardiac Surgery. Recent growth in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology provides the foundation to continually expand the fetal cardiology, transplant/heart failure, adult congenital and imaging disciplines.

In addition to the Congenital Heart Center, Levine Children’s Hospital ranked in multiple specialties in USNWR – a testament to the growth in services over the last 5 years and the overwhelming community support in developing pediatric expertise in in this region.

**Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit**
The Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 10 bed, state-of-the-art unit staffed with experts in the field – including physicians trained in pediatric cardiology and critical care medicine; acute care-trained nurse practitioners (current support to provide 24/7 coverage); and dedicated critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacist who received specialized training in congenital heart disease.

The CVICU provides comprehensive care for complex medical and surgical patients, from newborns to adults. The CVICU is equipped to provide the highest complexity therapies including mechanical cardiac support with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and ventricular assist devices (including the Berlin Heart, HeartMate II, and Syncardia devices).

Our program was recently designated as a Center of Excellence by the Extracoporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) – recognizing programs that reach the highest level of performance, innovation, satisfaction and quality. We’re also a recipient of the Bronze Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Academy of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) for consistent evidence-based practice that improves outcomes as well as recent designation as Magnet status hospital.

**Essential Functions**

* Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments.

* Records findings of examinations to be reviewed and countersigned by the supervising physician.

* Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications.

* Orders and interprets daily laboratory and radiology examinations.

* Determines treatment plan(s) in collaboration with the supervising physician.

* Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient''s medical record.

**Physical Requirements**
Work is in a fast paced hospital setting. Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support weight of 75 pounds in handling patients and medical equipment and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must possess an intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touching and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or clinic conditions. Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

**Education, Experience and Certifications**
Must be a graduate of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.NC licensure and DEA required.Pediatric Cardiology and critical care experience preferred.
