The big data presales expert will be an active participant in the software sales cycle at SAP as a member of the Virtual Account Team and will work closely with the other members (sales, customer solution manager, value engineering, …) in managing the presales process. Primary focus of the role is to work as an integral member of the sales team to drive revenue through Deal Support, Demand Generation and Sales Readiness. In that role, the big data presales expert will show how business innovations can be translated in solution architectures based upon SAP's data platform for key and strategic accounts. Responsibilities of the big data presales expert include active participation in any of the following: customer sales cycles, strategy sessions, value based product presentations or demonstrations, coordination of Proofs of Concept and SAP Partner enabling and mentoring. S/he should be an evangelist and knowledge multiplier, with great communication skills and commercial experienced. Affinity towards and skills in SAP's HANA data platform are an asset. The SAP HANA Data Platform is a unified data management framework that can process, analyze, and deliver complete, accurate information in real-time for any application or user - with low total cost of ownership. It offers a fundamentally new approach to data processing that unifies all data assets into a single environment, greatly simplifying IT landscapes. At the heart of SAP's Data Platform is SAP HANA. SAP HANA (SAP High-Performance Analytic Appliance) is a data source agnostic in-memory appliance and database that enables organizations to analyze business operations in real-time based on large volumes of data. SAP HANA is one of SAP's most innovative and exiting new solutions and one of the most important areas of SAP's strategy and future success.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

Preferably, the big data presales expert has a history in business intelligence & data analysis tools and/or data acquisition, modeling & transformation tools or has dealt previously with enterprise data warehouse architectures. S/he should have a strong interest for in-memory databases/appliances, big data scenarios and information/enterprise architecture.
- Participate in sales qualification, customer strategy workshops, delivery of an architectural design based on SAP's data platform, strategies and competitive positioning.
- Assess business, application, system, data and information architecture.
- Lead innovation discovery.
- Understand the data architecture and possible deployment options that bring value to the client.
- Possess robust analytical skills with the ability to synthesize business requirements with technology capabilities
- Consult with clients on the application architecture, the underlying systems and data architectures and build viable differentiation strategies in a specific competitive environment leveraging strong analytic and data modeling capabilities
- Understand one or more competitive database offerings and/or BI offerings and/or appliances and its strengths and weaknesses.
- Effectively position and communicate the benefits and solution architecture of specific SAP data platform offerings/options that best meets customer's requirements.
- Lead the effort in scoping and developing Proof-of-Concept plans to successfully demonstrate how the SAP data platform can successfully meet customer's technical and business requirements.
- Prepare and deliver software demonstrations to various levels of clients as part of deal support.
- Ensure delivery of a simple, appealing and compelling presentation.
- Communicate the business requirements to the project/implementation team after completion of sales to ensure a smooth transition from presales to implementation stages, warranting a continuous degree of customer satisfaction.

WORK EXPERIENCE

- minimum of 5+ years pre-sales experience supporting major sales engagements OR 3-5 years solutions specialist (equivalent customer facing) experience.
- Strong experience with data warehouse offerings and/or appliance technologies
- Knowledge of various architectural approaches to warehousing including performance, hardware and software components
- Understanding of all data integration, data modeling, data warehouse and analytics architectural components
- Understanding of ETL and data integration methodology for loading data into the data warehouse
- Understanding of business intelligence solutions.
- Understanding of one or more ERP applications (SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft,…) is an asset
- Successful sales or implementation engagements on data warehouses and/or data modeling/business intelligence tools.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

- Strong desire to work in a sales organization and provide sales support to Account Executives as a product expert.
- Possess strong sense of teamwork, integrity, self-motivation, positive attitude, and problem solving
- Ability to demonstrate the value of the solution and the ability to build a strong working relationship with both the prospect, SAP Partners and the SAP Virtual Account Team.
- Ability to interact with c-level audience and present at large events
- Ability to acquire SAP knowledge and understand how business applications are aligned with technical architecture of SAP's data platform.
- Ability to quickly learn new product and business concepts.
- Ability to articulate a data architecture design including big data, real time, high performance and high availability support.
- Excellent strategic communication skills including the ability to build relationships and effectively communicate and influence across all management and organizational levels both internally and externally.
- Self-driven and able to work independently as well as in collaboration with multiple stakeholder groups.
- Media skills are an asset
