**Summary:**

Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) II performs and documents preventive maintenance and repair of general and/or specialized medical equipment and systems with minimal supervision from service management to perform required duties. The BMET II must demonstrate a working knowledge and use of required test equipment and the electronics, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical knowledge and skills, including the ability to interpret and effectively utilize service manuals, schematics and other applicable service information, required to perform and document preventive maintenance and repair of medical equipment and systems, as assigned, in accordance with established DXEMED, 2nd Life Biomedical, or Sarnova procedures.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*

* Independently perform complex troubleshooting and repairs on designated equipment, while working within the established procedure. The BMET II must demonstrate proper methods and techniques of installation, calibration, preventive maintenance and repair troubleshooting for their designated modality. The BMET II must have the ability to transfer a particular level of knowledge and experience to less experienced personnel to resolve equipment problems.

* Proper use of all standard test equipment:

a. multimeter e. line resistance meter

b. oscilloscope f. photometer

c. dosemeter g. Great Plains or service order software

d. AC line analyzer h. service terminal

* Be able to read, analyze, interpret and follow signal flow on blue prints, schematics and wiring diagrams.

* Instruct customers and staff in applications and operations of the equipment.

* Exercise good system troubleshooting skills.

* Perform and be available for afterhour’s service, also available for emergency calls on weekends.

* May be required to participate in shift scheduling.

* Actively utilize the established procedure on all service calls.

* Perform manufacturer-mandated equipment modifications and satisfactorily complete the required paperwork.

* Be able to perform all system service diagnostics on applicable products.

* Must have the ability to work outside of their designated or secondary modality to solve technical problems.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications:*

* 4 year degree in electronics or biomedical equipment technology or equivalent.

* A minimum of Eight years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of medical equipment.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

* CBET or additional technical certification is strongly preferred.

**Skills/Experience Required:*

* Knowledge of technical aspects of electronic equipment and its operation, repair, and maintenance.

* Knowledge of the application and repair of computers and servers and how they interface with medical equipment.

* Knowledge of current regulatory requirements.

* Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to use of biomedical equipment.

* Knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.

* Ability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical equipment.

* Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections.

* Ability to run diagnostic programs.

* Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.

* Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration, and tests.

* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment; to push/pull equipment carts; and to kneel, stand, bend, and reach during equipment repair.

* Skill in testing electronic equipment.

* Skill in manual dexterity, hand-to-eye coordination, and color vision.

**Working Conditions:*

* Possible hazards include exposure to electrical shock, chemicals and chemical fumes, high-pressure air, infectious disease, and various other hazards associated with biomedical engineering work.

* Protective clothing and safe work practices are required.
