The Engineering & Science Services and Skills Augmentation (ESSSA) contract provides engineering, scientist and engineering technician support to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. The Jacobs ESSSA Group is comprised of eight companies of Aerodyne, All Points Logistics, Bevilacqua, ERC, Jacobs, Lee and Associates, Qualis and Tuskegee. This position is for an approximately half-time effort to support the MSFC Optics Group, which is planned to start January 6, 2014.

The successful candidate will work with NASA and DOD researchers in the development of Fast Light Optical Gyroscopes (FLOGs) to provide increased inertial navigation performances. * Develop new optical gyroscope technologies involving techniques to enhance optical cavity sensitivities

* Ability to work with scientists and engineers to understand their needs and to easily learn new physical concepts is important to the success of this effort

* Record experimental efforts appropriately

* Provide frequent updates to the supervisor and principal investigators

A B.S. degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET accredited institution is required. Candidate must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in Physics, Optics, Engineering, or a related discipline.

* Knowledge of modern optics is desired.

* Some direct experience with lasers, optical assemblies and / or test and measurement devices is strongly desired.

* Aptitudes for critical thinking, problem solving, and hands-on optics experience are critical.

You may be requested to provide a reference to speak to your hands-on capability in the laboratory.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
