Job Description
Gartner is recruiting for a candidate with experience in Banking and Investment Services (BIS) technology, processes and lines of business. In particular, we need someone who is an expert in Commercial Banking for large corporates and SMEs.
As a Research Director, the candidate will collaborate with other team members to identify and research areas and topics of significant interest and need in the BIS industry. The selected candidate will advise Gartner clients on a wide variety of technical, business and management issues. This individual must be familiar with the processes, drivers and challenges in Commercial Banking, and the activity cycles surrounding the deployment and implementation of technologies supporting this sector. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable aboutthe tools and strategies used in the financial supply chain for commercial/wholesale banking, including the cash management and trade finance areas. They must know the key trends, products, vendors, selection, implementation and optimization of the technology here as well as well as specific emerging needs.
The analyst will have strong technical skills, but must also be able to address the business, management and political challenges within BIS. The candidate must be willing to travel and address client inquiries across many time zones.
This Research Director position includes the following specific tasks:
* Prepare thought-leading, actionable written research, working in a peer review structure.
* Support inquiries from clients across multiple time zones.
* Speak at Gartner or other conferences as a subject-matter expert.
* Demonstrate skill at analysis - seeking out and piecing together fragments of information, extrapolating, building and applying conceptual models, taking a position, recognizing patterns and drawing conclusions from partial data.
* Attend vendor briefings, vendor events, client meetings or exhibitions as required to further Gartner’s research position.
* Assist other parts of Gartner when required, for example: sales support; support to Gartner’s separate Consulting division.
Primary Coverage(must have) will include:
* Commercial / Wholesale banking (services to large corporates and SMEs)
* The Financial Supply Chain for commercial banking and its key processes
* Transaction Banking:
* Commercial Payments +
* Cash Management +
* Trade Finance
Secondary Coverage(nice to have) may include:
· Risk Management
· Treasury & Trading
· Custody
· Retail Payments
Job Requirements
* 10+ years’ experience in the BIS market
* 5-10 years of IT experience
* Able to talk 1:1 with CIOs at Banks
* In depth knowledge of the key BIS processes, especially for Commercial banking, to include cash management as a minimum
* IT project management experience
* Business change management programs at banks (either working directly for the bank or indirectly as a consultant/vendor)
* Knowledge of markets outside the US and UK
* Good writing skills in English
* Good verbal skills in English
* Fluency in a language that is not English (e.g. Spanish) an advantage.
* Excellent analytical skills
* Location is open to all countries, but currently living (or having been a past resident) outside of the US and UK an advantage.
Additional Details
This role may be based anywhere in the U.S., EMEA or Brazil.
