Title: Research Support Operations Manager
Location: Pasadena, CA
The incumbent will work in partnership with the Director of Research Support and the Manager ofResearch Support to provide operational support to the Research Support unit. This involves management oversight and direct supervision; staff training, staff mentorship and career development; assistance with resource allocation and management in accordance with project-specific funding and infrastructure requirements such as hiring and performance management; and other duties as assigned. The purpose is to provide more robust support to the Unit so it may better address team and department needs overall.

Essential Functions:
- Directly supervises and supports the Research Project Managers.
- Responsible for identifying individual and team training needs, educational opportunities and the development of competency metrics for the Research Support team.
- Provide staff trainings to supplement competency training modules as necessary and requested.
- Assists with establishing guidelines concerning the access of medical record information (i.e., IRB approval, legal regulations, authorized access, patient confidentiality, data security, etc.) and disseminates information to team.
- Oversees timekeeping procedures to verify and approve timecards.
- Assists with the recruitment process for all Research Support staff.
- Works with the Director and Manager ofResearch Support to identify hiring needs and recruitment opportunities.
- Assists with identifying possible recruitment arenas and partnerships with KPSC HR recruiting staff and/or Research Scientists to assess staffing needs and develop advertising and recruitment efforts.
- May attend recruitment events to promote department and team opportunities.
- Manages and assists the Research Project Managers in coordinating and implementing the performance evaluation process for their research support staff.
- Meets with the Research Project Managers and assists with research support staff performance review discussions and completion.
- In partnership with the Manager, Research Support will discuss, evaluate and resolve conflicts within the work setting.
- May also work with the Director and Manager ofResearch Support to facilitate disciplinary actions.
- May collaborate with other department members to conduct the orientation and training of new team members, and ongoing trainings for other department staff.
- Assists with the development and implementation of effective strategies for resource allocation and management in accordance to project-specific funding and infrastructure requirements.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 5 years experience in a healthcare and/or research setting to include management responsibility.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in public health, healthcare administration, epidemiology, or related field.
- Understanding of the research process and GCPs.
- Experience developing and presenting professional reports and presentations to senior-level audiences.
- Experience leading and managing other professionals through influence and collaboration.
- Ability and/or experience in identifying key business opportunities and/ or issues and in developing appropriate action plans.
- Ability to work independently and be highly flexible and dependable.
- Professional experience with change management.
- Professional written and verbal communication.
- Assures a collegial, respectful, and professional work atmosphere.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional experience in the research environment preferred.
- A minimum of 4+ years of personnel management preferred.
- Experience leading large teams preferred.
- Understanding of the operations and/or business of Kaiser Permanente and health policy trends preferred.
