Title: Supervisor, Optical Lab- Surface Dept
Location: Clackamas, OR
Responsible for developing and sustaining a high performance work environment in the Optical Lab Surface Department. In collaboration with all Optical Lab departments, manufacture and deliver high-quality eyewear in a timely manner. Support Northwest Region Vision Essentials Optical Centers to consistently achieve member/customer satisfaction, generate revenue while containing costs, and meet financial objectives. Coordinate with Labor Partners to develop and administer regional Vision Essentials and organizational goals and objectives as determined by the Vision Essentials Leadership Team and Senior Leadership. Reports to Optical Lab Manager.

Essential Functions:
- Manage the Vision Essentials Surface Dept. in a manner that provides good cust. srvc. & ensures that members receive quality eyewear in a timely manner in accordance w/ estab. regional, departmental & professional standards.
- Staff:
- Recruit, hire & retain competent team members.
- Direct & train staff in ophthalmic lens surfacing (grinding) procedures to ensure high quality results w/ min. materials loss & personal accountability for quality & production.
- Ensure that staff has the necessary equipm't & resources to safely & effectively perform their jobs.
- Clearly communicate policies & procedures, Service Behavior Stndrds, job stndrds & perf. expectations to employees & monitor progress.
- Ensure that staff complies w/ state & fed. laws, regulatory requirem'ts, & quality stndrds, incl. HIPAA.
- Complete annual perf. appraisals for all staff & probationary appraisals for all new hires.
- Conduct H-M-L perf. conversations w/ each staff member twice annually.
- Counsel, discipline & terminate, as needed, in accordance w/ state & fed. laws & organizational policies. Maintain appropriate documentation to support these functions.
- Maintain a working knowledge of HR policies.
- Ensure Labor participation in decisions that affect the work grp.
- Identify & resolve work place conflicts, in Partnership.
- Develop & empower staff to optimize their personal & professional potential.
- Encourage staff involvement to implement innovative approaches & best practices to improve team perf. & morale.
- Acknowledge & reward successes.
- Establish & maintain a healthy work environm't & communication process in alignm't w/ the Nat'l Labor Management Partnership to support quality of work life philosophies.
- Monitor & improve work methods, optical productivity & utilization of resources.
- Communicate financial goals to work grp.
- Involve staff in work improvem'ts & cost mgm't to create a cost-conscious culture.
- Review & approve employees' automated timecards.
- Service:
- Contribute to the overall effectiveness of operations by maintaining productive & collaborative working relationships w/ other optical lab depts, optical ctrs, transportation, materials, strategic sourcing, HR, finance, and other depts w/in the org.
- Establish criteria to measure member/cust. satisfaction w/ prod. & srvcs rendered.
- Investigate/respond to cust. inquiries & complaints. Utilize feedback to review & improve processes to achieve srvc. objectives.
- Randomly perf. inspections of completed jobs to ensure that prod. quality, timeliness & staff perf. are consistent w/ estab. stndrds.
- Keep current w/ technological advances, the latest materials & trends in the optical mfg industry.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current ANSI stndrds as they apply to the mfg of eyewear.
- Make recommendations to the Optical Lab Mgr for srvc. expansion, equipm't upgrades, or facilities improvem'ts; & participate in said processes as req'd.

Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Four (4) years of experience in prescription eyewear fabrication & finishing OR two (2) years of experience in prescription eyewear fabrication & finishing PLUS an associate's degree in Opticianry.
- Four (4) years of first line supervision experience or comparable team leader experience.
- One (1) year of experience with computer aided manufacturing methods.
- High School diploma or GED.
- ABO certification within one (1) year of hire.
- Thorough knowledge of prescription eyewear fabrication as well as frame and lens manufacturing processes.
- Thorough knowledge and skills in the principles of supervision, personnel management, and budgetary management.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Surfacing skills.
- Thorough knowledge of Surfacing equipment and its capabilities.
- Thorough knowledge of Lab Management Systems.
- Basic computer skills.
- Effective communication skills both oral and written.
- Ability to innovate and inspire excellence in staff performance.
- Effective decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor when dealing with interpersonal conflict, time demands, or emergency situations.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of experience in ophthalmic lens surfacing preferred.
- Four (4) years of experience in a supervisory/managerial role preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience in use of computer aided manufacturing (CAM) technology preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of Kaiser Permanente or general knowledge of managed healthcare organizations preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of prescription eyewear fabrication as well as frame and lens manufacturing processes and equipment preferred.
- Ability to teach and train the above principles preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of POS and Lab Management Systems preferred.
- Demonstrate management skills preferred.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage staff preferred.
- Tolerance of ambiguity preferred.

Salary Range- $25.68 - $33.93
