Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock’s Corporate Strategy and Development group is responsible for supporting the Global Executive Committee (GEC) in formulating and executing global and regional vision and strategy, supporting business-line strategic planning, and driving multi-functional assignments and initiatives for the firm. The core activities of the group include providing: 1) external market intelligence, 2) corporate, business and cross-functional advisory services, 3) M&A related valuation and execution, and 4) executive office support for GEC members and the Board. The group has a strong track record of senior and junior members migrating to business leadership roles within the firm. The team consists of about ~35 professionals globally, of which 12 are in London. Key responsibilities of the group include:

Developing BlackRock’s strategy, both globally and in the region
Leading and contributing to strategic assignments, frequently involving a cross-functional element
Contributing to and supporting GEC strategy days
Working with individual businesses to develop strategy; advising on, challenging and helping businesses define and execute their strategic agendas
Working with the EMEA Executive Committee to develop EMEA specific strategies e.g., market entry strategies, regional prioritization
Supporting corporate processes
Strategic planning and strategic investments both globally and within region
Board of Directors and other Executive strategic materials

Job Purpose/Background:

Responsibilities span project delivery, people development, knowledge development and relationship management. They work with senior members of the Strategy team, business leads, colleagues throughout the various businesses and functions (e.g., distribution, portfolio management, finance, HR, marketing, etc.), and junior members of the group to deliver on specific projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Project delivery
Managing individual work-streams of projects through to full project management (depending on both the size, scope and complexity of the project and the experience of the individual)
Working with senior Strategy colleagues and a steering group of senior business managers on developing project scope, key questions to be answered and key messages
Working with colleagues across the business to develop and shape the content of their particular work-streams
People development
Transferring knowledge, developing the skills and guiding the professional behaviors of junior colleagues
Providing constructive feedback and instruction and fostering a positive culture of collaboration
Knowledge development
Developing one or more areas of domain expertise in a particular space within asset management
Relationship management
Developing relationships throughout the firm that will facilitate project execution and will help leadership develop the project agenda for the Strategy team

Knowledge/Experience:

Relevant expertise within asset management spans the full range of BlackRock’s activities: retail distribution, institutional distribution, ETFs, wealth management, marketing, alternatives, portfolio management and capital markets, and trading.
Well-qualified candidates may also have consulting or investment banking experience in financial services, particularly asset management or closely related capital markets businesses.
