Job Description
ITW Global Welding Technology Center continues to build its capabilities in software development as core competency in digitally controlled welding equipment,  processes and systems. We are looking for several experienced and highy motivated software developers to be a key driver of differentiating competitive advantages through digital controls, connectivity, data processing and tools. The software engineer will help lead common best practices while assisting BUs in accelerating their NPDs, by developing modular, reusable, portable and scalable functional building blocks to be shared among BU's NPDs; and assisting advanced weld process exploration and arc physics research efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Primary responsibilities include investigation, development and implementation of embedded controls, networking and man-machine interface that can improve our position in the welding equipment intelligence and value proposition in digital manufacturing. Leading and collaborating effectively with peer software, hardware, power electronics, welding and mechanical engineers in a decentralized organization is expected.

Depending on a candidate's qualifications, he or she can begin as a Senior Software Engineer with opportunity to advance to managerial position or a Staff Software Engineer with opportunity to advance to more senior engineer position based on performance and attitude; and opportunity to advance to the BUs as need arises.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or Engineering required with at least five years of industry experience.

• Two or more years of experience with demonstrated proficiency in embedded C programming. Ability to specify, architect, design/code, test and verify embedded applications.

• Experience in selecting, designing, troubleshooting DSP and/or microprocessor / microcontroller based hardware to support an embedded system.

• Experience in object oriented design and programming techniques for resource limited embedded applications and experience in either C++, Java, C# or Objective-C.

• Familiarity with Z transform, FIR and IIR digital filters, PID and adaptive control of stochastic system is desirable.

• Familiarity with industrial fieldbus protocols and other serial communications is a plus (ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, CAN, USB, RS485, Modbus, I2C, SPI, etc.).

• Familiarity with Ethernet and wireless communications stacks is a plus (TCP/IP, UDP, Zigbee, Bluetooth, wifi, etc.)

• Familiarity with Agile or Scrum software development process in a team environment using source code control, documentation, testing, and architecture and design modeling tools is a plus.

• Familiarity in machine tool industry, motion controls, robotic or fixed automation, sensors and vision system is a plus.

• Experience in RTOS, embedded Linux, iOS, Android and Windows CE is a plus.  

• Experience in HTML5, cloud computing and distributed file system is a plus.

• Experience in digital image processing is a plus.

• Experience in SQL database is a plus.

• Experience in VHDL on FPGA or CPLD is a plus.

• This position requires a self-motivated individual with exceptional communications and interpersonal skills able to effectively work individually as well as in a team environment.

• This individual should have a track record of successfully developing technical solutions from concept to customer.

• Limited travel may be required.
