GENERAL DUTIES

Manages complex and technical library resources and provides expertise to students and faculty.

* Manages all complex and technical library digital resources, including personal computers, web serves, fileservers, database serves, local area networks, distance learning applications, and the CUNY + Library System

* Maintains the ALEPH 500 on-line library catalogue

* Plans, develops, implements, and manages on-going support and maintenance for the Library's technical infrastructure

* Assists in writing purchase/bid specifications library-specific digital resources.

* Provides technical expertise and support for staff training and application of electronic library resources in classroom instruction, computer laboratories and distance learning programs

* Coordinates the library interface with vendors/producers of electronic information, products and services

* Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

Under the direction of the Chief Librarian the Senior College Laboratory Technician works closely with Library faculty and staff to develop and maintain print and non-print collections. Develop and compose informational materials. Assist in determining liability for late, lost or damaged materials and resolve billing problems.

*Provides prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service to patrons and refers inquiries to other Library staff as appropriate
*Assists in resolving user complaints and ensures user compliance with Library and campus policies
*Assists with the Library's opening and closing procedures when needed
*Supervises student assistants, including hiring, scheduling, and training
*Creates and maintains Circulation services desk schedule
*Assists in the preparation/records of purchase requisitions for library supplies
*Maintains Library's physical environment; organizes and plans for shelving and shifting of print materials/reports routine and emergency problems as the need arise
*Performs/assists with other tasks as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years' experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

*Knowledge of the organization, principles, and philosophy of an academic Library;
*Demonstrated experience in circulation and reserve services and procedures;
*Knowledge of integrated library systems specific to circulation and reserve functions;
*Knowledge of Ex Libris' Aleph system preferred;
*Experience in customer service, demonstrated skills in communicating with students, faculty and staff in an academic environment;
*Supervisory experience; ability to train, delegate and evaluate student assistants;
*Ability to work independently, plan, organize, prioritize and complete projects by target dates;
*Knowledge of general types and uses of library print and non-print materials;
*Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system;
*Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
