Job description/Person specification

To provide specialist knowledge of avionics, particularly with modern navigation and radar systems in both federated and highly integrated aircraft installations, their operation and application, and be responsible for effective and safe test and evaluation tasks of them at a systems level.

The job entails application of the systems engineering lifecycle, decomposition of customer requirements into robust, coherent evaluation strategies and detailed plans; engagement and liaison with multiple stakeholders across project lifecycles, to lead or participate in trials activities ranging from rig, ground and flight testing; application of effective analytical skills to the evidence collected to produce reports, both orthodox Technical or Customer reports, and risk based reporting, giving high integrity safety, airworthiness and capability assurance Release to Service advice and recommendations to customers.

Engineering Technical Leader, AvMS, Air Division

Responsible for:

Direct Reports – None

Key Accountabilities:

o Complete all tasked work efficiently in the required time and within the allocated budget
o Flexible and agile responsiveness to real-life dynamic trials situations
o Achieve very high standards of integrity, correctness and quality of work
o Compliance with and accountability to all Engineering Governance and technical assurance requirements
o Complete all tasked work technical documentation required by the Air Division Operating Framework and attend specialist meetings and working groups

o Supporting the development and retention of a ‘world class’ capability to provide Customers with independent Specialist Technical advice

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Education, Qualifications and Training

o Degree in Electrical, Electronics or Aeronautical Engineering

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

o Knowledge of aircraft systems and general aircraft operation
o Spread of technical competencies as detailed in the AvMS competency matrix
o Basic understanding of the RTS process and MAA regulatory requirements
o Basic understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment
o Computer literate with MS Office
o Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills
o Knowledge of Health & Safety, Environment and Quality policies and procedures

Essential Personal Qualities and Behavioural Requirements

o Recognised as ‘world class’ Technical Specialist
o Good team player
o Ability to work well under pressure
o Able to stand behind judgement

Desirable Criteria

o Incorporated/Chartered Engineer
o Experience of working in or with MoD and the Services at Desk Officer level
o Technical leadership experience in an Aerospace organisation
o Customer interface experience in an Aerospace organisation
o Supplier interface experience in an Aerospace organisation
