Description
Global Technical Services, being part of the Janssen Supply Chain and a member of Johnson & Johnson Family of companies, is currently looking for a Device Manufacturing Development Engineer - Global Technical Support to be based in Schaffhausen, with up to 20% travel.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Device Manufacturing Development Engineer is responsible as an integral member of the device platform team in two main areas of responsibility: (1) manufacturing development in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing Sciences (PDMS) department and (2) stabilization and steady state technical support for medical devices used in combination products. The function holder may also lead projects of some complexity to support the global device platform ensuring adequate capacity and capability for supply.
The incumbent will also be recognized as a subject matter expert in a particular area of medical device development or manufacturing.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to supplier selection process providing technical leadership and assessment as necessary
- Actively participate in the development of design inputs as well as risk analysis (hazard analysis, AFMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA, etc)
- Lead development team in design for manufacturability and assembly processes
- Partner with external design and development resources to translate design inputs and become knowledgeable on the design intent during the development process
- Partner with receiving site(s) to ensure voice of manufacturing input is represented in product design also to adequately transfer the technology as a part of design transfer activities
- Partner with external suppliers to ensure component development processes lead to robust manufacturing processes
- Provide expertise on process development and manufacturing process qualification methods
- Develop, design, implement and validate assembly equipment, jigs, fixtures and gages as necessary for the development process
- Analyze issues to root cause with a structured approach and methodology using statistical tools and techniques
- Device manufacturing process capacity scale-up for internal and external manufacturing
- Device life-cycle engineering including process engineering, product engineering and support to site or external manufacturing network as necessary
- Lead projects as necessary to address issues with customer satisfaction, quality, manufacturing improvements and cost reductions
Qualifications
For this Global role we are looking for a strong individual with demonstrated experience in manufacturing development and technical support with strong knowledge in the application of engineering principles, world-class manufacturing techniques, statistical analysis and judgment to independently plan, organize, direct and complete development and technical support programs.
Requirements are as follows:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Biomedical, or Materials
- 3-5 years experience in medical device or pharmaceutical industry, overall with past proven field experience in the following areas:
- Plastic and metals materials and processing technologies
- Process validation
- Statistical process control
- Product/-Process design and development
- Equipment development and implementation
- Design for manufacturability and assembly
- Engineering drawing interpretation
- Financial analysis and business case development
- Applied statistics & Business planning
- Ability to effectively lead and coordinate cross-functional and cross-sites teams in a matrix organization
- Fluent in both English and German
