Primary Purpose

An IEI Instructor is committed to international education, international student success, and the instruction of international students as they develop their English language abilities in preparation for university study. This position requires developing and teaching academic-oriented intensive English classes to international students with varying levels of English proficiency; assisting in developing and maintaining a successful academic-oriented IEI curriculum; and collaborating with colleagues within the IEI and across campus to promote international student success.
Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and teach intensive English courses within the IEI

2. Assist in the development and maintenance of an effective intensive English program curriculum

3. Research textbooks, software products, websites, and language learning activities to support student learning

4. Collaborate closely with the International Programs Office (IPO) and the units within the Student Success Center (SSC) on international student welfare, academic success, recruitment, and retention

5. Represent the IEI on campus and within the community

6. Advise IEI students on academic policies, disciplinary issues, and strategies for success

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in English, TESOL / TESL, Linguistics, or related field is required. Must have experience teaching English as a second language.
Preferred Qualifications

1. PhD in English, TESOL / TESL, Linguistics, or related field

2. Three or more years teaching English as a second language to adult learners

3. Experience working with an intensive English program (IEP)

4. Ability to adapt various types of educational technology for different learning situations

5. Experience with recruitment, cross-cultural communication, and curriculum development
