Description: This is technical services work in providing assistance to the Chief Medical Examiner or his/her designee in performing autopsies and associated laboratory and office support assignments. Responsibilities include testifying in court, delivering educational lectures, and collecting, storing, and shipping entomological specimens. The most difficult aspect of the job is obtaining, recording, and protecting case information. At times, may require working under stressful and hectic conditions. Representative Tasks: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned). Photographs, x-rays, and fingerprints remains; removes and examines organs; and procures and transports specimens in order to comply with medical examiner instructions and meet legal and recording requirements. Investigates and researches cases, including visiting scene and interviewing medical examiners, insurance agents, law enforcement personnel, dentists, laboratory personnel, and others in order to file complete and pertinent reports. Inspects and oversees purchase, maintenance, and documentation of office equipment, autopsy supplies, photographic supplies, and office vehicles in order to ensure availability of material and equipment when required. Collects, preserves, and ships entomological materials for further testing in order to ensure specimens are properly prepared and protected during shipment. Answers questions from individuals involved in cases, explains office operations and functions to groups, and testifies at court hearings in order to provide information.
