Bexar Aging Staff Ombudsman (AACOG) This is a responsible non-supervisory position which requires working with a variety of area aging service providers. Duties include providing technical assistance, planning, program development and public information services to area public and private service providers; investigating complaints of nursing home and assisted living facility residents; monitoring and evaluating volunteer program activity; providing information and education regarding the long-term care system and the rights and concerns of residents and potential residents to long-term care facilities, families, community groups and the general public; visiting nursing facilities in the region, serving as a liaison between the facility, residents and their families to facilitate the best possible quality for residents; maintaining records in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures including protecting the confidentiality, identity and privacy of the clients or their representatives. Must have ability to deal effectively with multiple state, federal and local agencies on interactive and overlapping programs; knowledge of aging program grants; ability to prepare accurate grant applications; ability to prepare concise and accurate reports; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, clients and work related public. May travel out-of-region and lodge overnight as required. Masters Degree in social work, public administration, or related field preferred, plus at least one (1) year of experience in a responsible position in a social service or related field, preferably related to services to the elderly; OR Bachelor's degree in social work, public administration, or a related field, plus at least three (3) years of related work experience, with at least two (2) years of experience in a responsible position in a social service or related field, preferably related to services to the elderly; OR High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least five (5) years of related work experience, with at least two (2) years of experience in a responsible position in a social service or related field, preferably related to services to the elderly; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities required. Valid Texas driver's license and reliable transportation required. Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services Ombudsman Certification desired. Business hours 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Mon-Fri.
