The ESH Nurse/Technician is responsible for leading, conducting, instructing, performing, safety related training and programs that control and prevent incidents, injuries and hazards. ESH Nurse/Technician must be able to identify and eliminate hazardous conditions that may be found in an industrial seed plant operation. A leader in site sponsored ES&H; activities with specific accountability for implementation and management of the Monsanto Occupational Medicine (OM) Fundamental Requirements

The ESH Nurse/Technician will maintain all permits, review, evaluate, audit, and provide all required ESH training. Will assist in safety talks with supervisors and team members. ESH Nurse/Technician will ensure all required environmental, health, safety activities for the site are accomplished as required by regulatory or policy requirements. ESH Nurse/Technician will conduct the daily activities of walkthrough inspections, audits, task evaluations, testing, training, briefings and reporting of performance measures. This position uses a hands-on approach to help ensure organizational compliance of applicable OSHA and EPA federal, state, local and corporate safety, health and environmental regulatory requirements. This position will work with management to evaluate, and assure that the plant operations follow and adhere to the EHS procedures, policies and rules by all assigned team members, visitors, customers and contractors entering the site.

* Defined pre-placement, periodic, return to work, fitness for duty, and exit medical examinations and respond to emergency situations in the facility.
* Management of health care providers, assessment of medical examination results, and necessary follow up; facilitate documentation of medical restrictions, facilitate determination of appropriate accommodations and necessary clinical follow up with site management and HR
* Ensure all clinical findings and follow up recommendations and re-evaluations are followed
* Assessment and follow up of work related injuries supporting and working with company ESH, workers comp carrier and risk management
* Management of other OM fundamental requirements such as emergency medical response and blood borne pathogens
* Develop, coordinate, implement, workers education about relevant OM issues; allergies in the work place, heat stress, management of minor injuries, determination of referral for further medical care, heat stress, management of minor injuries, determination of referral for further medical care
* Working both with site management and corporate staff to achieve desired ESH goals of the site.
* Assist others in implementing and monitoring industrial safety programs to ensure compliance and personnel and site safety.
* Through leadership of all ESH required programs at the site, the effective employee will balance site observations, auditing, and employee coaching in day-to-day activities with documentation and development of site training and improvement areas.
* Prepare and retain training documents, job safety analyses, and other documents related to site safety activities as required by site management and corporate staff.
* Possess ability to present training programs in a manner that creates employee involvement.
* Responsible for auditing of site as required by site management and corporate staff.
* Participate in evaluating new equipment, materials and processes for safety and safety network as required.
* Assist others in performing surveys and inspections to ensure compliance with the organization''s policies, procedures, regulations and standards related to employee safety.
* Documents non-compliance or hazardous conditions found and the remedial action taken.
* Must keep abreast of changes in all OSHA, VPP and State safety codes, permits and regulations.
* With site management involvement, develop cost effective structure to achieve site ESH goals.
* Utilize metrics to gather data and provide information to management to make decisions. Attend additional educational training as required.
* This position will also administer the site security program and coordinate security activities both locally and through the corporate office. This includes developing and maintaining procedures, maintaining the alarm and security systems and responding to security calls. In addition other duties may be assigned as directed by Site Manager.
* Be knowledgeable of and support all departments for the site with all ESH programs applicable to their areas. Conduct orientations, trainings, guidance, and ensure competency through testing, and record keeping.
* Be directly involved with all site safety teams. Safety Committee, Ergonaut team, BBS team, LOTOTO team, JSA team, etc**.**
* Assist with any ESH permitting including air permitting.
* Work with the ESH generalist to assure all policies and procedures are current and being followed**_._**
* Write letters in regards to regulatory requirements seeking guidance from Monsanto Legal Departments in the event there are questions or concerns.
* Maintain a business relationship with representatives from regulatory agencies applicable to the site.
* Be the first line site representative to meet representatives/ inspectors from regulatory agencies. Notify all necessary Monsanto representatives they are on site, ensure they receive orientation, lead the opening meeting, assist them on any required site tours, lead the closing meeting, document any findings, corrective actions, or notice to comply, and track to closure. Report all information to management and corporate ESH.
* Manage the site’s hazardous waste and ensure it is disposed of properly and documented.
* Work with the team to write and train on all site specific environmental, safety policies, procedures and forms for the site.
* Work directly with Monsanto’s occupational health department to ensure all occupational health programs are being followed, and report all necessary documentation.
* Set up:
* Annual hearing test for all employees in the hearing conservation program
* Quarterly blood draws for all employees in the cholinesterase program
* Annual flu shots for all employees
* Biometric screenings through our “Be Better” health program
* Annual trainings with the American Red Cross to ensure first responders are up to date with their certifications.
* Maintain business relationship with the site’s occupational provider. Coordinate required site visits to discuss and audit all applicable occupational medicine programs with Monsanto’s occupational health department.
* Develop pandemic kits and write continuity plans
* Ensure Monsanto’s vehicle policies are being followed.
* Ensure contractors are qualified to be on the site and conduct work in progress audits if prearranged by the site manager.
* Support the site’s off the job safety program, promotions, community outreach events.
* Maintain the following site plans: emergency response plan, site safety and health history, confined space program, LOTOTO program, Ergonomics program, environmental compliance, fall protection, elevated work, fire prevention & protection, hazard communication program, hearing conservation, PPE, machine use & guarding program, respirator protection program, observations programs, driver safety, worker protection standards, and job safety analysis and standard operating procedures.
* Participate in site CAPEX projects, by conducting reviews and ensure all items on the ESH reviews are addressed and prestart-up reviews are completed.
* Work with the site’s employees to enter their applicable Community Outreach Events into the Monsantogether program.

## Qualifications

* Current CA Registered Nurse License required.

* Experience in clinical Occupational Medicine, workers compensation and management of medical provider performance

* Current CPR certificate, trained in emergency response development and implementation

* Capable to clearly present information and influence or persuade others through oral and written communications

* Ability to collect data and analyze to provide supporting graphs and presentations to management and the team

* The ability to lead teams and implement corrective actions to meet deadlines

* Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization

* Demonstrated decision-making ability and problem-solving skill essential

* Results / detail-oriented, self-directed with a natural tendency to work with a sense of urgency

* Intermediate to expert level computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

* Outstanding leadership and communication skills including the capability to clearly present information to influence or persuade others through oral or written means

* Ability to work with site management, ESH staff, and site employees in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitment to goals and objectives.

* Working knowledge of ESH, OSH regulations.

* Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel

Desired

* Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering, Healthcare or related field. Preferred

* Certified by NIOSH respirator examinations, CAOHC certified preferred

* Certified in wellness field preferred

* Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

* Seed Production Processes experience a plus.
