Purpose

As a member of the Major Gift Team, work to develop and implement plans to identify, solicit, and secure major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations to benefit the Cockrell School of Engineering.

Essential Functions

Identifies prospective donors by using the University's Donor Prospect Management System and working with the development specialist to identify prospects, analyzing constituent databases, conducting prospect review, and making personal visits to prospects. Develops giving strategies that are appropriate and meaningful. Manages the development cycle by asking for gifts personally, often as part of a team, or facilitating asking of prospects by the President, Provost, Dean, or other volunteers. Prepares and coordinates briefings for visits made to current and prospective donors. Develops major gifts from individuals and entities they represent, such as corporations or foundations, by maintaining a vigorous schedule of contact with prospective donors. Solicits, closes, and stewards gifts from both existing and prospective donors, many of whom have not been contacted before. Develops reports, letters, proposals, and gift agreements based on conversations or points of agreement with donors. Manages a portfolio of prospects with updated strategy and proposal tracking. Cultivates relationships by articulating the Cockrell School's compelling vision/mission and by assessing specific areas of donor interest and level of potential engagement. Works with development team members to assist with strategic planning for the entire individual giving process, including the Friends of Alec Annual Giving Program. Establishes relationships with faculty and administrative staff of the Cockrell School in order to facilitate relationships with and serve as a point of coordination with potential donors.

Required qualifications

Bachelor's Degree. Three years of professional development experience in gift fundraising, donor management/stewardship or other closely related field. Demonstrated ability to work systematically to conduct prospecting visits and manage ongoing relationships with a large number of alumni to identify potential donors who are prospects for major gifts for the school. Demonstrated excellent written skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a disciplined and sequential way to meet specific funding objectives. Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as a member of a team. Demonstrated ability to manage contact with donors and prospective donors in a systematic and sustained manner to close gifts. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications

Four years of professional development experience. Experience writing grants/proposals to foundations or other formal funding agencies. Fundraising experience within the University of Texas at Austin, including proficiency in the VIP system.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
